"Thirsty." Maka said, sitting up in her warm and comfortable bed. Slowly, she got out of bed with a rustle of sheets and slipped into the kitchen for a glass of cool and refreshing water. Grumbling, she turned on the mini light on the stove so she could pour her water and not blind herself. She sipped the clear liquid happily, wanting to get back to bed soon but wanting to enjoy the simple pleasure of H2O. She turned off the light and brought the still half full cup of water with her, just in case. She groggily started back to her room, when she heard noises coming from Souls' room. It sounded like panting; gasping for breath like something was hurting him. Maka glanced at the clock; 3:03 AM, he most likely wasn't awake. So, what was hurting him? 'It's probably nothing.' she decided after debating whether or not to break down his door to check on him. She self-assuredly strode away from his door. She twisted the knob on her door.

"GGYAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!" A heart wrenching, soul shattering scream split the air around the apartment. It had definitely come from Souls' room.

"Soul!" Maka dashed to Souls' room and slammed the door open. Soul was lying on his bed with no blankets covering him, but gripping the sheets like they were his life line. Through the dim light, Maka could make out his clenched teeth and tightly shut eyes. Beads of sweat were only visible by small glimmers covering his body. He was panting hard and growling in what seemed to be pain. As soon she could observe the situation properly, Maka jumped beside Soul; and spilled the remainder of the water on his face. Instantly, his blood red eyes shot open. His expression hidden by the cover of darkness, he grabbed Makas wrists and twisted her into a lock.

"Soul, stop! That hurts!" she gasped, wincing in pain as her arm twisted at an angle it shouldn't. Soul blinked, coming too his senses and quickly releasing her. Maka fell forward and instinctively grabbed her injured shoulder.

"Maka? What are you… what happened?" He slurred.

"You were having a nighthmare, so I woke you up. And I think you may have dislocated my arm."

"My God… again, hey?" He muttered, but then spoke in a normal voice "I'm really sorry Maka, want help popping it back into place?"

"Mmmh."

"Okay. On three. One…. two-" And on two, he shoved her shoulder back in the joint.

"Ow! What happened to three?"

"Three." Maka sighed. She picked up her now empty cup and headed for the door. "Wait…" his voice articulated behind her. "If I have another nightmare, will you wake me up again?"

Maka turned to face him. "Depends, will you put me in a lock again?"

Soul looked at the ground unsurely. "…"

Maka giggled. "Of course I will, you're my friend after all!" She closed his door and went back to her room. 'Just friends, hey?' she thought as she got into bed. 'If only we could be….' and she dozed off mid-thought.
