Wasn't

Disclaimer: I don't own anything.

It wasn't supposed to end this way. He knew that, she knew that. But it had and nothing either of them did or said could change that. If he could change things, he wasn't sure he would have. It wasn't that he didn't love her, quite the opposite. It was that they had grown apart; their jobs and their personalities had built a wall between them. When he got angry, he'd ignored her and she'd attempted in vain to get him to communicate, to right things but he'd thrust himself into his job and went into boarder patrol. She'd given up then, and walked away pride defeated.

It wasn't that he didn't love her at all. He still held a special thing for her, every time he saw her. They're eyes would meet and an understanding would happen. She understood he hadn't wanted it to end the way it had, but she also understood it had been time for it to end. Others claimed they were perfect for each other but when they thought upon it; they weren't.

He was a rake. A flirt, a drifter. She was a down to earth collected woman. Seldom do you have a choice in which you fell in love with. They were fortunate to let theirs run its course without corruption. He had been a handsome, heroic warrior and she the brave, honorable, one. They'd been a good pair, both tall and sturdy but when you looked closely the lines were drawn. Her job, being a Commander came before her love. His love became before his job. Sometimes, in battle it would be that way for both where they shoved each other out of swords paths, or arrow's courses. Then they came back to earth and while underneath lowered lashes she made sure he was okay she turned to her officers and collected them to drive back the enemies. All the while he openly studied her, making sure she really was okay. Seldom did she ever falter, or become fazed. She'd faced more monsters then he had, had fought more demons in the darkness, she'd fought blind and he hadn't. It was something he accepted. She'd been through more.

It still wasn't supposed to end with his marriage. It had been a marriage of choice, and he'd walked down the aisle and yet she was still there. Smiling encouragement, but there was the deeper emotion. The one that made him want to falter, to ask her if she wanted him back, if she would take him back and they could go back to the beginning. The one that hurt him worse then a thousand knives driven into his body could have. In her eyes was the one thing he'd wanted and searched for often, had searched through women after women, from the strongest warrior to the daintiest lady.

In her eyes he saw…She still loved him.

A/N: This was in mind of Kel/Dom but I suppose it could be someone else. Who, I don't know. Tell me what you think.

Noted that this was just something random that came to me and not exactly supposed to come at all, but alas I did not choose for it to become inspired…Anywho this is this and if you liked it great, wonderful Wahoo! But if you didn't that's fine as well.
