Synopsis: Obi-Wan and Yoda discuss Leia have Luke's rash departure from Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back.
Author's Note: This is a small little piece on why I think Obi-Wan believes Luke to be their last hope, why he doesn't acknowledge Leia's existence.
There is Another
"That boy is our last hope," Obi-Wan said, sadness creeping into his voice as he watched Luke Skywalker leave to save his friends and face his enemy.
"No," Yoda replied, "There is another."
"Another?" Obi-Wan asked, "The other you speak of is too busy playing politics to embrace her Jedi Heritage."
Yoda slowly turned around to face the ghostly form of Obi-Wan Kenobi. "Holds true to the same values her mother once did, this other one does. Fail us Leia Skywalker will not."
Obi-Wan studied the old Jedi Master carefully, "Master, Leia's heart is in politics, is in fighting this war in a different way. I do not see her embracing this part of her past easily. Darth Vader captured and tortured that poor girl for hours, she would not be happy to discover he is her father and I fear that she may be more inclined to commit violence against him for those very same reasons."
"Fear leads to the-"
"Darkside," Obi-Wan finished, "Yes I know. You've given me that lecture as long as I can remember and I'd given it to Anakin and now to his young son."
Yoda closed his eyes and Obi-Wan could see that he was pain. He was old and Obi-Wan was afraid he would not last a galactic standard year. "Politicians always have you distrusted. Old ways are gone. New ways are here. Organa she was raised to be, Bail Organa's daughter she was raised to be. Question there is not that Leia Organa she is. But fail us she will not."
Obi-Wan sucked in a breath. He was not so sure. Leia's mind was elsewhere. Yes she fought for the same freedoms that Luke now fought for but she did it in an un-jedi like manner. "I am sorry Master but I do have my doubts." He did not doubt Leia's abilities only Leia's potential willingness to join her brother in the way s of learning the Force.
"Doubts you may have," Yoda said, "Doubts I do not. Faithful she will be. Fight she will, when density calls, answer she will."
