AN: I love Meredith and Alex's friendship so I wanted to write this. Takes place in season 9, Meredith is pregnant but has only told Derek and Derek's sister. Okay? Okay!
Meredith lay back onto the couch, taping her stomach lightly, she could hear other doctors and nurses buzzing around outside the attending's lounge. Pulling her phone from her lab coat pocket she began looking through pictures, most of them of Zola and Derek. She came across one, a picture of her and Lexie, sitting at the kitchen table both their heads back laughing. Derek had taken the picture and Meredith had asked him to send it to her, for the longest time it was her background, but she didn't think Lexie knew that. A tear rolled down her cheek, she wiped it away when she heard the click of the door, Alex came in in a rush, blood on his scrubs.
"Mer?"He asked
"Hey"
"What's wrong?" Alex sat by Meredith's feet
"Nothing"
"Liar"
"Alex, I don't want to talk about it"
"Too bad. Come on Mer. You can talk to me" Alex rubbed her leg sweetly
"I miss Lexie" Meredith mumbled
Alex looked down, he didn't know what to say, he knew how much Meredith missed her sister but she never talked about it. "Sorry Mer"
"I just, I think about her all the time and I hate myself for not being a better sister"
"Hey, Meredith, you are an amazing sister"
"No, I wasn't"
"Meredith, Lexie loved you, she respected you, she"
"She needed me! She was hurting and I was to busy thinking of myself"
"Mer"
"No, Alex. I knew she hurt when Mark started dating that Julia girl, I knew how she felt but I didn't reach out, I didn't do what a sister is supposed to do"
"Maybe not but Meredith, you are the girl who let Jackson and April move in so they didn't have to think about Charles and Reed, you forgave me even after I hurt you, you were on my side, you let Cristina go back to Owen even though you hate him, you sat by Lexie's bedside after the shooting, you let me pay rent less than Izzie and George because you knew I didn't have enough money, You are an amazing sister Meredith!"
Meredith couldn't help but smile "Thanks…. And Alex, you are a great brother"
Alex smirked and lifted Meredith up into a hug
"I love you Alex, okay?"
"Love you too Mer"
"Thanks. Oh…. Alex, can I tell you a secret?"
"Sure"
"Only Derek and his sister know"
"Know what?"
"I am pregnant"
Alex was shocked "No way"
"Yeah"
"Congratulations Mer! Why haven't you told anyone else"
"Because this is Seattle Grace Mercy Death, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong"
Alex laughed "No, this is great and maybe this will be like breaking the curse of this place or something"
"Maybe"
Alex and Meredith sat for a moment when their pagers went off
"Trauma" Meredith sat up
"Yeah, I gotta change, meet you down there, save me a case" Alex smiled
"Okay, oh and thanks again"
"Anytime Mer"
