A/N: I must be ill or otherwise poisoned, because I have just written fluff. Gah. Horrible. A very short oneshot that could possibly be connected with the last oneshot I wrote, "What Darkness Brings", but this one is very sweet. -gags- Ah well, the fluff lovers out there will love it.

I wake up in the middle of the night, and simply lie staring at the ceiling. The air around me is nearly silent, apart from the occasional car passing on the street below my bedroom window. I reach above my head and push my wrists under my headboard. The cold metal on my wrists feels so very familiar and somehow it's very soothing.
My eyes stare into the dim room. There are shadows everywhere. A few of them are moving as cars pass and let their headlights shine through the window. Usually, the shadows scare me since I don't know what lurks inside them, but not tonight. Not now. Not when he's here beside me.
I turn slowly, careful not to wake him up with my movements between the sheets.
He's sound asleep, face nuzzled deep in the pillow. Slow, steady breaths emerge from his nose, and I listen to the sound of his inhaling and exhaling. He sounds so peaceful. A man like him has no nightmares. I strong psyche and a strong physique – no wonder no one can break him.
And I have him. Right here in my bed beside me.
I carefully reach out to push a wayward strand of hair from his face. There is something about his features that I simply love to look at. I could just lay awake for hours, gazing at his face. He is the man I have always waited for, and never in a million years thought I could have.
For a few moments I just lie looking at him, seeing his eyes move behind his eyelids. He's dreaming. Pleasant dreams, I'm sure. He looks peaceful.
I let my han gently run over the sheet covering him. It's a warm night, and he's not wearing anything underneath it. The sheet accentuates every single muscle of his body, and I see it rise and fall as he breaths. I let my eyes trail down and look at the beautiful man lying next to me, let them follow the lines of body underneath the thin fabric.
When I look back up at him, he is awake, and his brown eyes sleepily look back at me. A small frown forms on his brow.
"You're awake?" he mumbles softly as he lifts his head slightly from the pillow.
I nod.
"Nightmares again?"
I close my eyes slowly and open them again in response. He knows.
"Come here." He reaches out for me with one hand, and I crawl up under it, nuzzling my face tightly against his muscular chest. I let my hand rest on the firm peck under my cheek, and bring my legs up close to his. He wraps his arm around me, and I feel his strong hand press against my bare back.
"They'll go away. I'm here."
He's fast asleep again after giving me a kiss on top of my head, but I remain awake, taking in his smell and listening to his steady heartbeat.
They won't go away. I know that much. But at least they can't get to me as long as he's here, holding me tightly; protecting me.
I take a few more breaths, drawing in the soft smell of his body, and slowly I drift off to sleep in the arms of the man I love.
The man who protects me.
The man who will never leave.
The man who loves me.

A/N 2: I love vague stories. You are free to decide who the people in the bed were yourselves :)
