A/N: I'm so full of one-shots today, aren't I? This is really my first attempt at something that isn't the absolutely ridiculous, so feel free to tell me if it sucks.
The first time he sees her, he falls in love with her, but he won't discover it for quite some time.
He is going into the café when he sees her, her brown hair falling to her waist and her father pulling at her arm, glancing around worriedly for the police. She sees him too, he knows she does, and she smiles so broadly at him and he wonders if maybe having your heart stop is physically possible after all.
No, he's sure he isn't in love with her, though, and when Marius comes in singing the praises of his angel Enjolras scorns him just like he would normally. Love at first sight—what a ridiculous notion!
That day she leaves a note for him, though—I heard your speech in the square today, how can I help—presses it into his hand without a backward glance—something might happen then. Something.
He seems to keep running into her, though, and before long they have secret rendezvous at the river and he goes looking for a flower shop when he'd normally never be caught dead in one because she says no one's ever given her flowers.
The first time he kisses her, she reminds him—"My father"—and he says, "I don't care who your father is or what he does, don't you see?" and she is silent, and squeezes his hand.
It would be too much to hope that he could keep her from the barricades.
She's there before the first attack, in pants with her hair up in a cap. The other Amis don't recognize her but Enjolras does, right away, and he hisses at her to get out of there and she won't, of course. She smiles calmly at him and informs him that she cares just as much about the poor as he does, thank you very much.
He's lying on the ground, now, and he knows he'll be dead within the hour, when he feels pressure on his hand. It's her, blood running off of her forehead and the largest grin he's ever seen on her face.
"Love you, Enjolras," she whispers. Her eyes are wide, her chest heaving, and then she's still.
Enjolras reaches over and closes her eyes before drifting off into the welcome blackness himself. "Love you, Cosette."
A/N: Did I surprise you? Did I did I did I?
