Monday the 20thof May 1922
Today is my birthday, I am now 18 years old born in May in the year 1904, my parents are George and Mary Radcliffe, I have two older brothers, Daniel and Robert and one younger sister, Edith, my name is Rose.
It will be my coming of age ball at the end of the month of May.
Today my Mother received invitations for the two of us to go to the ball being held by the Montgomery's, at 4:00, so we are going shopping to buy a new dress for myself as I am now 18 and Mother wants to show me off to everyone. Mother won't let Edith come though as she says she is too young. (Edith is 15, 16 in July) So I told Edith that she could come to my coming of age ball.
The ball held by the Montgomery's was fantastic, I danced for ages, when ever I stopped dancing someone else would come and ask me to dance. Everyone wanted to dance with me, and talk to me, it was like somehow word had got around fast that I was now 18 and single.
Tuesday the 21stof May 1922
Daniel and Robert have asked if I would like to come with them into London and visit Grandmother as well as buy some new shirt vests and hats.
Wednesday the 22ndof May 1922
Today Father had three young gentlemen come in the sitting room (they were all cute) and Father introduced me to them. I don't know why but I think I will be seeing a bit more of them over the coming months.
Edith bought a new set of gloves when we went into town today, and I bought a set too.
Thursday the 23rdof May 1922
Mother insists she takes me into town today and buys me a new dinner dress, I don't know why I mean my coming of age ball isn't on until next week. But I let her take me, because I love shopping and buying new dresses.
Friday the 24thof May 1922
When I went down to breakfast this morning, Father greeted me with a grin, and then he told me that the three gentlemen he introduced me to on Wednesday were having dinner with us tonight and Father said he would like me to wear the new dress that Mother bought me yesterday.
When I came down to dinner in my new dress, I was greeted by the three young and cute gentlemen, their names were Michael, Benjamin and Joseph, each of them greeted me as if I was a beauty that they have never seen before.
