"Oh...my..." gasped Kellie.
"Go and get a drink of water, Kellie, you're in shock." said the Lieutenant.
Kellie did as she was told. She was going to miss the old Lieutenant but something inside her suggested excitement. He could now bring them on adventures and they could run away, hand in hand.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant had gone to a walk in wardrobe and changed clothes. He now wore a grey hoodie over the top of a Manchester United Jersey with short black shorts and slippers.
Kellie returned to the control room and gaped at the Lieutenant.
"What do you th-"
"Horrible." said Kellie. "No. Never going to happen. No."
The Lieutenant disappeared again.
"12 regenerations." muttered Kellie. "That means no more."
The Lieutenant returned. He now wore a tuxedo with a red tie. "Well?" he asked.
"Oh YES!" said Kellie. Her eyes glinted. "What do you think?" she asked.
"Comfortable. O.K. with me staying like this?" asked the Lieutenant.
"Yep. No problem." said Kellie.
"Good." said the Lieutenant. The Lieutenant operated the controls.
The TARDIS dematerialised.
The Lieutenant turned on the hologram. A face appeared. "This is my 5th incarnation, Kellie. I got into an accident in this incarnation. My foot was chopped off. I grew a new one. This incarnation was the one that decided to keep the rotting foot on the SISO with her. I disowned her for it. And this..." The Lieutenant turned on the scanner "...is my 8th incarnation." A face appeared. It looked as if something was wrong with him. "I disowned this one because he was suffering a disorder. His muscles didn't work properly and he was disabled. Not even his mouth would work, so he invented a wheelchair and speaking machine to live." He turned off the the scanner and hologram. "What?" he asked.
"Regeneration. Why all of a sudden? Couldn't hold it?" asked Kellie.
"Well-"
"What?" asked Kellie.
"I could but it's like holding a wee. Uncomfortable and sore. It's also..." The Lieutenant fell down to the floor clutching his chest in pain "...not pleasant. Pain accompanies it. Also, imagine you suddenly changed and every morning you woke and saw Michael Jackson in the mirror. How would that be?"
"Horrible. But I-"
"Never thought of it like that before. Of course you didn't and with no regenerations left, time to settle down, become comfortable, stop the showing off and just adore the world for what it is."
"NO!" cried Kellie.
"YES. STOP ACTING SO CHILDISH. Time I grew up too."
The TARDIS materialised.
The Lieutenant exhaled regeneration energy and got up. "We're in the maldives." he said.
The Lieutenant and Kellie exited the TARDIS.
"Lovely." said Kellie.
"Yes. Let History take its course. Admire these. Everywhere you look. Beautiful. Ah."
"Aahh." said Kellie.
"Let's go." whispered the Lieutenant.
The Lieutenant and Kellie returned to the TARDIS.
The Lieutenant exhaled regeneration energy and watched it fly around the TARDIS before it disappeared. "Regeneration stabilised." said the Lieutenant. "I'm making a decision about company for you, Kellie."
Kellie frowned.
The TARDIS dematerialised.
