Prologue
"Are you sure you don't want to talk about it?"
"Yes, I said I was fine Millie, leave it alone,"
"Seth…"
"Leave it!"
Millie sighed and stood up making her way towards to door. She flipped her long wavy blonde hair over her shoulder and turned her head back towards Seth.
"I guess I'll leave then, call me tomorrow?"
Seth grunted and stood up. He hugged her tightly and sighed. "See you tomorrow, thanks Mill."
Millie pulled away and smiled. "Always," She cracked the door and slipped her slim body through the door. Seth closed the door and made his way back towards his bed. He laid down on his back and starred at the ceiling. Tears formed slightly in the corner of his eyes as he thought about his father and how much he missed him. He hadn't been able to talk about it ever since he found out his father had been killed after being kidnapped. He took of his hat and hung it on a hook on his wall and ran his hands through his shaggy hair.
"Seth honey,"
"Hey mom,"
"You getting ready for bed?"
"Yeah,"
"Good, tomorrow's a big day, goodnight,"
Seth lay his head softly on his pillow and closed his eyes. "Night mom."
Millie walked two blocks down the street and skipped up the steps of a Victorian house and through the stained glass front door. The oak foyer smelled of pine sol and Cuban cigars, Millie rolled her eyes and walked into the living room. Her mother sat on the couch watching TV while her grandfather sat reclined in the corner of the room asleep with a half-smoked cigar sitting in the ash tray next to him.
"Hey mom, is grandpa out already?"
Millie laughed, "Well I'm going to head up to bed, love you."
"Love you too sweetie,"
Millie walked out and turned around with a nervous look, "You didn't by any chance hear from dad today?"
Mrs. Walker shook her head, "No, but you'll be the first to know if I do."
Millie smiled and walked upstairs to her room. She through her hair up in a sloppy pony tail and quickly slipped into some pajamas. She laid down on her bed and began thinking. She rolled over and grabbed her pink fuzzy phone off the nightstand. She dialed quickly and waited for an answer.
"Hello?"
"Hey Julie, it's Millie, sorry to call so late, is Seth still awake by any chance?"
"Let me go check," Mrs. Plumber dashed quickly up the stairs to Seth's door and knocked. She cracked it open and peered inside.
"Seth?"
"Yeah Mom,"
"Millie's on the phone and she wants to talk to you,"
Seth picked up the phone and placed it up to his ear without even opening his eyes. "Yeah,"
"Sorry to wake you up,"
"Don't worry about it, what's up?"
Millie sat silently just wanting to hear his voice.
"He still hasn't called as he?"
"No," she replied quietly.
"Mill, it'll be alright, I'm sure he's just…"
"Never coming back?"
"No…"
"I know, never mind, sorry I called, see you tomorrow," Millie quickly hung up and cursed at herself for calling in the first place. She grunted and turned her light off so she could attempt and get some sleep. Tomorrow the Plumbers would be getting their new bodyguard and she had every intentions of being there.
