She looked so beautiful.

Even after 2 years of not seeing her…

Thinking she was dead…

Never seeing her sweet smile again…

After the events of Kijuju, Chris Redfield could not believe his eyes; Jill Valentine, his Jill Valentine, was actually alive.

He thought he'd never see her again. But here she was in his apartment, right in front of him, on his sofa, sleeping peacefully.

Chris was so relieved and happy to have her back. After her presumed death, and her appearance again in his life, he was just glad it was all over, and he had her back in his arms.

His hand stroked her soft, smooth cheek carefully. Please, don't take her away from me again, he thought, begging fate to make sure she was by his side this time.

He heard a soft groan, and Jill began stirring, her eyelids slowly opening. Her vision was blurry and her head was spinning, but she could see her beloved Chris in front of her, his face so real…

"C-Chris," she said, her voice cracking. "Chris, I'm so sorry…"

"What are you sorry about? Jill, I'm just glad you're back with me." His eyes were gentle, his smile relieved and tender. His hand was still on her cheek, stroking it softly.

"I…I wanted to get back to you, Chris, I really did…I wanted to see your face…but…Wesker…" she choked, the tears coming into her eyes, her beautiful face changing into an expression of sadness and regret. Her pale blue eyes, pained and tormented, stared into Chris's own.

"Shh, it's alright, it's alright," he whispered, as she sat up and he hugged her, her face burying into his chest. "I'm here, it's fine."

"But…"

"I promise, I'll be with you from now on…and always," he said, and he meant his words with every fibre of his being, and if he didn't, then let him be hit by lightning and die a horrible death.

Which I always seem to avoid every time, he thought, hugging Jill tightly.

"Chris?"

"Yeah?" he asked, his hand now stroking her hair, comforting her.

"I love you," she breathed, her words were barely heard, her voice soft and tiny, inaudible. "I don't want to be taken away from you again."

Chris felt a ray of happiness shining on him; those were the words he had always wanted to hear from her, right after the Arklay Mansion Incident, right up until now, even after her presumed death. It was such a long time…

"Jill, I love you too. I just promised I'd never leave you again, and I intend to forever keep that promise."

Jill looked up from his chest, her eyes widening despite the tears, the sadness in them starting to clear away with joy. "Really?"

"Really." He looked at her beautiful face, his eyes still not breaking away from hers. "I love you."

Her eyes finally let go of the tears, her smile forming, as they rolled down her cheeks, the droplets staining Chris's shirt with wet spots…

As he wiped her tears away gently, it was then he realized…that fate may really have wanted them to be together.

Right from when Jill had become a S.T.A.R.S member, and was assigned to work with him…

To what happened at the Arklay mansion, where he saved her life, and her saving his in return…

Up until the incident at the Spencer estate, which he thought was to be the end of him, as Wesker was about to deliver a fatal blow to his face…

And Jill nearly sacrificing her own life just to save him.

He gave a small chuckle, and Jill looked at him, confused. "What is it?"

"It seems that we're destined to always be together no matter what, right?" he gave her a gentle grin, and she looked thoughtful for a while.

"You're right." She gave him a tearful smile.

He didn't know who went for it first, but he just found himself all of a sudden so close to her face, as they leaned in, and their lips meeting each other softly in a sweet, tender kiss.

Seems like he was right, after all.
