Swirling Music
By Leah
Summary
Just a little ditty focusing on Bella when she is listening to Edward play her lullaby in the first film.
Please note that I am using italics and bold, I am sorry if this annoys any one but it is how I prefer to write. Also, this fic is written in Australian and british english, I can read American english, but writing an entire story with it is too hard so please bear with me.
This is also my first Twilight fic. I got into this fandom quite by accident. :) I'm a pretty casuual fan of Twilight so I'm not sure if I'll write another one. I just felt like a change from Robin Hood's Guy and Marian.
Disclaimer
I do not own a thing :) Rated PG just to be safe.
This fic is dedicated to my friends Australian stock horses, Princess and Rajah, may you rest in peace, and my cat, Nim.
Cullen's home
The thin dark haired teenager watched in silence as Edward Cullen walked over to the black grand piano situated in the centre of the room, sliding with amazing grace onto the stool then resting his finger tips, ever so lightly, upon the white keys.
With ever rising curiosity, she waited.
The music started. An almost timid then somewhat ... playful melody, and as the sound grew more passionate, Edward's hands seemed to dance over the piano keys.
Bella's pink lips parted. Her dark brown eyes widened in wonder as she continued to listen to the tune, to watch his fingers perform their hypnotic dance.
Rising from her seat, she walked over, sitting beside the vampire so engrossed in what he was doing he did not seem to notice her presence.
By now, Edward's fingers were gradually changing from dancing to a caress, a pat. Bella closed her eyes, imagining Edward patting a black cat's sleek, shiny coat with those, white, cold hands of his.
God! she wished she could be his cat. She would be a very, very good pussy cat.
Cheeks colouring, Bella opened her eyes, willing the image to leave her be, feeling very glad indeed that Edward could not read her thoughts.
The music changed tone, the softness, the gentleness of earlier, slowly replaced by a swirling, whirling crescendo.
Bella closed her eyes again.
She wanted to savour this remarkable noise, it's deepness, it's lightness. It was all so profoundly enchanting ... beautiful and it reminded her of so many things. Lovers sharing forbidden kisses. Twinkling stars. Walking across a cold floor in one's bare feet. Crashing waves. A sun rising. A sun setting. A grey stallion trotting in his paddock, noble head and silky tail held high and proud like a flag.
Bella took a deep, shuddering breath.
She felt alive.
She felt so alive.
Edward removed his hands from the piano's black and white keys, folding them neatly in his lap.
"Well?" he asked quietly, turning to Bella, not suprised that the young girl had taken a seat beside him. "What do you think?"
The human girl with the fine facial features was staring straight ahead. Her lips were parted slightly and a single tear slid leisurely down her pale, smooth cheek.
Edward smiled faintly, knowingly.
"That's all I needed to know," he murmured.
The End
Authors note
In case you're thinking "Hang on a tick! Dear old Eddy boy can't read the delectable Bella's mind" I'll fill you in on what was happening.
Edward knows Bella loves the music from looking at her facial expression. I wanted to keep that part nice and simple because most of this fic is based on Bella's profound reaction to the music, I didn't want to lead readers away from that.
This is the end of my first, possibly last, Twilight focused story. If you liked it, goody! If not, oh well. Not the end of the world is it?
Thank you for reading.
:) Leah.
