The village hath spoken!!! I am making a fic in which Himeno-san does NOT awake!! People, I suggest not taking your Zoloft -- it adds effect. wink

First off! ::sways and begins again in slurred speech:: I think yooooooooooooooooooooooou are a VERI!! very puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrddddddddddy ladI. and den....there was...THE DISCLAIMER!!

Disclaimer: People, people. Come now. Even when I'm drunk I won't admit to owning Pretear. That should provide you with some kind of clue about my awareness level. ::downs another shot:: TEK LI OOOO!!! Err... I mean TEQUILA!!!

Now for the story:

No. It wasn't possible.

Sasame had just beat him in poker. Hayate took another look at the stoic face that was Sasame. Then again, maybe it had a small percentage of possibilty.

"Ready for another game?" inquired a grinning Sasame over a newly shuffled deck of cards.

"No thanks." answered Hayate, pushing away from the table, "I just need some air." Without waiting for a reply, Hayate left.

A/N: No he did not just leave!!! ::snaps fingers:: Nuh - uh boyfriend!!

The air was crisp and cool. It was spring and the nights were like dreams of infants. Hayate inhaled deeply, manipulating a passing breeze. It pushed him up and held him. Hayate garments changed in another burst of wind. He cast a glance at the approaching Sasame, and then hastily gathered all of the wind under him, like a strained coil and then... THWANG!

The flowers were still vibrant and colorful...so full of life. Just like Himeno. Her lips were innnocently parted, cheeks warm, butterfly eyelashes sweeping against her cheek.

"Himeno..." This place...was the most sacred of sacred. No human, dead or alive, ever came to this place. Not since...

"Himeno...please...don't leave me like this..."

Hayate shook his head. No. Not now. He came here to...leave it all behind. Ironic situation. Hayate crept towards Himeno, much like a thief in enemy territory.

Himeno lay, still comatose, frozen in time. It had only been a month since...

"Leafenia needs you..." "...I need you." Hayate echoed sorrowfully. He knelt next to her and swept her bangs to one side. There was no reaction. He didn't really expect her to react. No, he didn't. So why...why did his chest feel so tight? Tears pinpricked at the corners of his eyes. "Bring back that smile." Damn it all!! Why was he -suffering- like this?! He was a Leafe knight. Such things are trivial. A knight's job is to protect the Pretear. That lesson rang clearly in his head. But he... he couldn't even follow that simple rule. He was failure. A disappointment.. If there is such a thing as love ...please... bring back that smile. He failed the knights. He failed the Leafe. Worst of all... he failed Himeno. "I...I can't take this anymore." he told the flowers. "This pain...Himeno..." tears tainted his voice, and his voice came out in rasp, "Forgive me."

Goodbye to you,

goodbye to everything that I knew

The wind caressed his cheek, and Hayate closed his eyes, sighing before succumbing to the darkness.

You were the one I loved

The one thing that I tried to hold on to...

The one thing that I tried hold on to.

::sniffs:: Half of this was written at 3am. I felt so guilty for not writing this sooner. sobs It wasn't what I wanted it to be...but I have a curfew to keep and 3 am was in direct violation, so I'm lucky I got that much written. So did you like it? I wrote for the reviewers at 'Awaken'. Hope you liked it!! ::hums to Michelle Branch::
