A/N: The song is 'Bang Bang' by Nancy Sinatra. I have tweaked the gender-related words to better fit the song-fic. This is a Lily/Severus romance/angst story. It is about how Severus felt after Lily rejected him that last time outside the Gryffindor common room. Enjoy peoples!
I was five and she was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
She wore black and I wore white
She would always win the fight
It was like Lily had shot me. Like father had once shot mother after one of his tempers, he had bled her dry. It was like Lily had stabbed me, and my blood was pooling on the floor. Love, life, meaning...over.
Bang Bang
She shot me down
Bang Bang
I hit the ground
Bang Bang
That awful sound
Bang Bang
My baby shot me down
Why should I bother any more, I knew she'd had a crush on Potter for a while, but I assumed it was just a crush, not enough to make her turn on me. We've known each other our whole lives.
Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up I call her mine
She would always laugh and say
Remember when we used to play
I remember. I remember watching her and Petunia playing at the playground. She radiated innocence, I doubt that the young girl I met would recognise the beautiful woman I know. I know I wouldn't.
Bang Bang
I shot you down
Bang Bang
You hit the ground
Bang Bang
That awful sound
Bang Bang
I used to shoot you down
I used to call her 'mudblood' all the time, and we could joke about it. Why now of all times did she have the sudden desire to separate our ways? It has to be Potter, she's secretly liked him for years.
Music played and people sang
Just for me the church bells rang
Now she's gone
I don't know why
Until this day sometimes I cry
She didn't even say goodbye
She didn't take the time to lie
Her cruel words punch holes in my chest until I can't breathe anymore. I gasp for air as the hole seems determined to rip itself a larger space. Oh, Lily, so kind, so caring, how could you do this to me?
Bang Bang
She shot me down
Bang Bang
I hit the ground
Bang Bang
That awful sound
Bang Bang
My baby shot me down
That night I swore I would never love again.
And I didn't.
