Walking the lonely road…

Valkyrie Cain, the great Skeleton detective's partner, could not stop walking.

What else was there to do? If she stopped she would be left alone with her thoughts.

Being left alone with her thoughts was a bad idea.

They were a dark cloud that refused to stop looming over her, walking was the umbrella that stopped her thoughts soaking her, covering her entirely.

They would consumer the last of her and her sanity. Her mind would twist and turn. And eventually…It would snap. Like a twig. Like a bone.

A tsunami of pent up emotions swept over the weak form of the once unbreakable Valkyrie Cain and she fell to her knees.

She landed in the sooty ashes of what was once planet earth, the home of the human race and, the magic community she had once felt a part of.

Lying flat on her back, arms spread out above her Valkyrie let the tears flow.

Happy memories flowed through her head. They zipped in and out.

Days when threatening hats and suits got her places. And just the mention of her name would make people back away from her.

Then She emerged. She ripped Valkyrie away from herself and her life, and her friends. She took everything.

She crushed the world in her wake. Destroying everything. Leaving Valkyrie in the back of their shared head, she left her alone. She wrapped Valkyrie in a state of oblivion. Val was unaware of their dying world.

She didn't see the Sanctuary go, she didn't see Tanith go, or even Sanguine perish.

She didn't even see Skulduggery go.

She didn't even get to say good bye to her best friend.

Once Darquesse was finished with the once beautiful world, she left.

Just like that she disappeared. Her work was done and dusted.

She allowed Valkyrie Cain to return and to suffer her punishment in her place.

Valkyrie Cain walked the lonely road, alone.

Fin.

Well, that was depressing, and it was only 300 words.

It popped into my head and I had to write it. xD

Don't forget to leave a review or a favourite!

Both would be greatly appreciated. In the end they are one of the major reasons I keep posting!

Until next time,
