The Call
Molly's P.O.V
It was impossible to wash dishes when I couldn't stop thinking of the kids. Poor Lily is being worked to the bone, and Chris is still sick as a dog. What did I do to deserve this? My children have lost all happiness that they used to have! I don't even see them laugh anymore. When Lily isn't "working", she just shuts herself in her room. Chris has been on bed rest for about a week, and he looks like he's not getting any better. I'm scared as hell. The same scared that I was when our house was burned to the ground and when someone tried to kill one of my closest friends. I don't know why karma has the need to throw this stuff on my family, but I want it to stop.
That's when the my phone started to ring.
I turned, giving a weak sigh as I started to dry my pruny hands. I reached over to the counter and raised it to my ear, letting my weight fall on the counter.
"Hello?"
"Hello Mrs. Gordon, this is Detective Brandley," said a serious and official, female voice, "Are you aware of the ware-abouts of your daughter, Lilian?"
I frowned, my eyebrows sulked at the sound of her name, "S-she should be on the bus right now," my voice cracked, "I was just about to pick her up. Why? What's wrong with Lily?"
"Bus number five was held up today. No children were hurt, thank god, but after a roll call, four children were reported missing."
I started shaking. I couldn't help but let tears dramatically spill down my face. I covered my mouth to stop the sobs that were soon to come.
"And I'm sorry to say this ma'am, but your daughter was one of them,"
That's it. The phone fell out of my hands and shattered on the floor. I instantly fell on my knees, my face in my hands as I started to cry. Heavy globs of tears wouldn't stop flowing. I usually know how these types of stories end. It scared me. No, it horrified me. Knowing my baby was out there. Probably cold, starving, dying even. I couldn't take it.
I completely fell on the floor. Screaming and crying into my hands.
Lily's gone. My little angel is gone.
And little did I know it, but my other nieces and nephews were too.
