A Bartender's Heart

Wade Kinsella watched outside of the room as Doctor Zoe Hart gave the news to George Tucker and his father, Harold Tucker, that her step-father, Doctor Ethan Hart, will do his surgery. Even though Zoe had embarrassed herself earlier, she was still willing to help because her father is a world class surgeon. He can't fault her for wanting to help the Tuckers. He knew even if she wasn't a doctor, she would've gotten her step-father to do the surgery. She was just that kind of person; she was that kind of doctor.

It still hurt to see that it was obvious to Wade that Zoe had feelings for George even though he is emotionally unavailable. He even thought it was uncalled for what Lemon Breeland did to oust that fact to embarrass Zoe that way. Lemon could have taken Zoe aside and confronted her that way if she wasn't that much of a bitch. He shook the thought off to remind himself that George is still a friend despite who he's going to marry. Maybe Lemon will calm down after the marriage, he mused, but he couldn't be certain.

Wade saw that Zoe started to walk out of the room when George stopped her. "Zoe," he said. "You didn't have to do this. I know how at odds you are with him."

Zoe gave him a smile. "My father's the best at what he does," she told him. "Your father deserves the best." Then she stopped think about the name changing, and sh wondered if she was going to go through with it after all. "This isn't about me and my feelings for you, George. Underneath it all, I still consider you a friend. I did this for my friend."

George walked to her and hugged her. "Thank you, friend," he told her. He then released her and walked back into his father's hospital room.

"Is all of that true?" Wade asked Zoe.

Zoe turned to Wade and gave him a look. "Weren't you ever told that it's rude to eavesdrop?" she asked him.

Wade smirked. "I was here first, so it's not my fault you didn't see me," he replied.

Zoe rolled her eyes.

"So are you going to get over George?" Wade asked.

Zoe looked over at Wade. "I'm already a scandal," she reminded him.

"There's no way I can forget that," Wade told her a grin. "Are you going to get over George?"

Zoe sighed. "I have to," she said. "Or I'm always going to be a scandal in Bluebell."

"Zoe, you've been a scandal since you came to town," Wade reminded her. "But this thing with George is different."

"I know that," Zoe said sharply. "You don't have tell me that."

"I have a few ideas to help you get over George," Wade said and then before Zoe could ask or protest, he had her up against the wall, framed her face, and kissed her long and slow like he's been wanting to do that seemed like a lifetime even though they haven't known each other a year.

Zoe moaned when Wade slowly let go. She had no idea he could kiss like that. "Wade, I'm not going to be one of your girls," Zoe told him weakly.

Wade brushed a strand of hair from Zoe's face. "Zoe Hart, you're far from that," he said. "You're not the only who's been carrying a torch. It seems like I've been carrying one for you." He lowered his head and Zoe met him half-way and they kissed.
