"Kurt! You like use the word smile 50 times in this story... Ms. Lockely will not accept this fer sure as an English assignment." Kitty warned him. Tail switching, he sighed and slid off the bed.
"I know," he grumped raising his blue hands in surrender. Walking over to her sitting at his desk chair, he looked down at the handwritten notes in her hands. "I'm new to this. How many ways are there to describe a smile in English anyway?" His attention was half focused on Kitty. Dressed in normal street clothes, she was cute he admitted.
"Well, more than that one word fer sure." Thinking, she tapped one foot against the chair leg. "How about "smirked" here?" Flipping the pages to find the entry, then paused. "He smirked as the dress fell to the floor…"
"I don't know. That sounds kind of, uh," looking at her face, he snickered when the wording sunk in.
"Right. Let's skip that one, I mean the dress fell off the hanger at the store accidentally, not…" Turning away, he took a sip of soda and pretended not to notice her blushing.
"Well, how about a grin variation on page 2. Grinned as in a 'wry twist of the lips?'"
"Wry twist? Nein. Sounds like some type of new snack food." Pantomiming, he pretended to eat chips from a bag. Giggling, Kitty flipped to the last page.
"Her face glowed?"
"I don't know. Sounds more like a skin radiation problem to me." Exasperated, Kitty rolled her eyes and read over it again. Shifting, she tucked one foot under her and swung the other to and fro.
"Hmm, how about flashed a smile? The waiter flashed a smile at them,"
"Instead of a menu? Here, have this smile," in his best French accent, arm out, half bowing.
"Kurt! Get serious. This paper is important to your grade!"
"Beam?" Seeing his puzzled look, she elaborated. "He beamed when she crossed the lumber yard, ducking and"
"Missing a pile of falling lumber! Whoosh thunk whunk!" Kurt joked. Laughing, Kitty admitted defeat. Setting the papers down, she smiled cheerfully and rose, phasing through the chair.
"Like catch ya later." And phased through the wall and into her room. Kurt watched until the last trace of her ponytail phased and smiled sadly.
"I wish I could catch you," he whispered.
