Naruto's POV
The stomping of boots against the carpeted floor announced the alpha's arrival. The inhabitants of the room should have quietened, showed the alpha the respect they deserved; and at any other time they would have but not right now. They could never take the rouges' alpha seriously. After all their alpha happened to be a she-wolf. So they went on about their business, not caring if the alpha stood at their doorstep. Literally.
Ours wasn't an arrogant clan, neither were our wolves prideful... well not more then a wolf naturally is. But even they couldn't take a female seriously unless it was their mate. Sexist, I know. It filled me up with slight anxiety, knowing that it could anger our guest. However my curiosity won over my trepidation by a long shot. I wondered how she'd react. I wondered what she'd do to earn their respect. My father wasn't present in the room. He was welcoming the guest like how it should be done. After all, it was us who required their favors.
The door opened noisily and I held my breath. My father stepped in first. The entire hall was suddenly dead silent and I knew it was out of respect for their own alpha. The faces still supported their casual smiles, as if it were just another pack meeting. Though strong, my father was a lenient wolf. He tolerated such behavior in his presence even when his own father punished for smallest of mistakes. He would have killed all these smiling wolves before the could even rid their faces of these grins.
And then she stepped in. The Rouges' alpha. Everyone in the hall froze, including me, smiles vanishing. It wasn't that she was big or looked strong. Her built was medium at best. It was her aura that pushed against my own making me want to bow down before her. I knew others felt it to for a few wolves, the ones standing in the front, fell down on their knees, heads dipping in submission, hands reaching out for her to honor them with her touch as she passed them by with grace that only an alpha could execute.
My nose tingled, my heartbeat picked up and my breath escaped me in short puffs. The wolf in me clawed at my insides, chanting something I did not pay much mind to. I was too occupied with getting a glimpse of her face, at the face of that oddly dressed alpha.
I watched her pause for a while, her eyes scanned the crowd in search of something or someone. She inhaled long and deep, taking in the scents but not being too obvious about it. That's when her gaze met mine and everything came to a halt. My surroundings suddenly dissolved into nothing. My mind came to a dead end.
Only then did I regard what my wolf was trying to tell me. It confused me at first and then it snapped me out of my daze like a slap to my face.
We stared at each other, eyes bulging out of our sockets with only one word ringing over and over in our ears like a broken record.
Mate.
Short, I know. Coming chaps will be longer that is, if you want me to continue.
