Sam was lying on his bed when he felt something hit his head. He turned his neck slightly. Feeling another drip, he he opened his eyes---and gasped. His girlfriend Jessica was pinned to the ceiling, bleeding from her stomach.
"Why Sam?" Jessica asked.
"No!" Sam cried. The girl was engulfed in flames. "JESS! NO!" he cried again.
"Sam! Sam!" a female voice exclaimed. He was wrapped into a hug. He tried to struggle, but the arms were strong. The person made little shushing noises. Sam pulled back slightly.
"Mom?" he asked in confusion.
"Oh, Sammy. I know. I know," Mary said sympathetically.
"I---I could've---" Sam began to say.
"Ssssh. No. Don't think like that, Sammy," Mary interrupted.
"But I ignored the dreams," Sam objected.
"You have a gift, Sammy. You just have to learn how to use it," she continued.
"I---I just miss her so much, Mom," Sam sobbed. For a while, Mary held her son as he cried into her shoulder. Then, he pulled away so that they were facing each other.
"I wish...I wish I could remember you," Sam confessed.
"Oh, Sammy. I know, honey," Mary said. "I wish you could too. I love you and Dean very much. And I'll always, always be with you," she promised. The woman disappeared.
"Hey, Sammy!" Dean exclaimed, jabbing his brother in the side.
"It's Sam," the younger Winchester muttered, sitting up so that his back was as tall as the Impala's seat.
"What were you dreamin' about?" Dean wondered.
"Well, at first...it was the same nightmare," Sam said.
"Sam, this has got to stop," Dean stated with a groan of exasperation.
"I said 'at first'," Sam reminded him.
"So what happened next?" Dean wondered.
"Mom---" Sam's voice caught and he had to pause. "showed up," he finished. Dean was so surprised that he nearly ran off the road.
"Mom?" he queried.
"Yeah. She, uh---she comforted me. Said she understood...held me," came the answer. Dean said nothing. He knew still held a lot of guilt over Jessica, but he had never really known what to do. Hadn't known how to comfort him without looking like a wimp.
"Mom say anything else?" Dean wondered thickly.
"She said she loved us...and that she'd always be with us," Sam answered in the same tone. Dean risked taking his eyes off the road just long enough to squeeze his brother's arm in a brotherly fashion. It was the closest he would ever come to a "chick flick" moment.
