When Kirk thinks of McCoy he thinks of an angel, of Bones. A gift god sent, to him, to save him from his anger, from his self-hatred. From the loneliness.
He thinks of a man who, for all his complaints, never leaves. Who puts up with the attitude and the fights and the constant self-induced danger.
Bones, who is always there, always comes back for him and sees only him. He doesn't see the ghost of his father, or of someone he used to be, or of expectations and false perceived notions.
Bones tells him that he see home when he looks at him. He tells him that his eyes remind him of Georgia's too blue skies, but even then emits that he sees the flaws and tells that it's not summer skies he sees but winters harsh chill.
That he sees it in him, in his edgy, sharp nature. That he sees his childhood. And the torture, abuse and hunger that he'd been through. It's the first time he's worried that Bones will leave him but Bones destroys the notion the moment it enters his mind telling him the he's "an arrogant, loud mouth, genius, pain in the ass" but that he's not going anywhere because he's also "kind, caring, self-sacrificing and more amazing than words could ever describe."
He sees Bones' surrender after this, his quiet acceptance of what their relationship is. And he becomes protective of his angel. More so than ever before. And he knows Bones sees it, sees it in the way he rips through drunks who have the guile to strike Bones, sees in the way he barely holds back from murdering them for touching what he'd claim for himself.
He knows Bones has a power over him, that Bones realizes this when he pulls him back before he can make the final blow to the men who hurt him. But Bones never uses it against him like so many before would have.
He's more comfortable with Bones after this realization and allows him to see more of the flawed him that he's hidden for so long. All scared and broken and covered in more scars the he can count.
He also knows Bones is mad when he sees his scars that tell stories he'd rather bury and he can never understand what would make his angel so angry.
So he asks.
"Because those monsters HURT you! They hurt someone as beautiful as you!" Bones screams with all the self-righteous rage he can. And his heart can't help but speed up. "They don't deserve to live and they ARE still alive. I can see it in the way you act and I swear to GOD when I get my hands on them I'LL make them pay."
He's not really paying attention to the rest of the rant. He's trying to process what he's been told. And he can't help it when he throws himself at Bones.
"I love you, Bones!"
It feels good to speak what the truth that the two have been dancing around for over a year. It feels even better when Bones rest his hands on his hips and gives a gruff laugh into his neck.
"I love you too, kid. I love you too."
This is the first successful one-shot I've ever written (I tend to get to many ideals to stop with one chapter) and I love it. Bones and Jim just have great chemistry in the new movie and this is pairing probably safer then Spock and Jim is this Universe. (I think their pairing would lean more towards abuse in this time line.)
Tell me if I got them right and what you think. Also this is unbeta. So if there are any mistakes please tell me.
