Vianne stared at her parents and sighed. It had been a while since her parents were at home. It sounds terrible, but now that they were here, she wished they were back doing whatever they did on their business trips. It had been so lifeless without them, but now that they were back it was like there was no air in the house. It seems that their recent business trip had drained the life out of them. Vianne wondered what had happened, another stock market crisis? She snorted, stocks and shares, that's probably what was worrying them.
She, herself, was a brilliant economics and business studies student. She loved statistics, but she hated maths. She had no creativity whatsoever, but could play the piano beautifully. She just could not learn Asian languages except her own native Korean, but loved learning the European languages. She was a quiet achiever, but quite the popular girl. She wasn't that pretty but she wasn't ugly. She was just…normal.
Vianne stood up and straightened her netball skirt, picked up her sports bag and headed towards the front door. Her friend, Lauren, was going to pick her up this morning. It was a routine now. Lauren picking her up to go to netball practice.
"Bye mum, dad, I'm off," she said.
"Mhmm, have fun darling," both her parents murmured not looking up from their newspapers.
As she was about to walk out she realized that she had forgotten her whistle, she was to umpire today as well. She ran up the stairs to her study room trying to find the small silver thing. She was sure that she had put it in on top of her books in order to remember to bring it.
"Mum! Have you seen my whistle?" she called.
"No, Vianne, perhaps it's in the laundry," her mother called back up.
Vianne quickly ran down the stairs to the laundry, it wasn't there either, she looked into the darkness of the garages, she took a deep breath and walked in not turning on the lights. She would regret that later on.
Vianne saw a glint of silver and quickly walked forward to grab it. Something didn't feel right, she spun around and saw a shadow. Suddenly she felt a gloved hand on her mouth and as she struggled to scream for her parents she felt something hard hit the back of her head.
