Goddamn Idiot
-Drabble-
She was crying. Sobbing more like it. And he had no idea what the hell to do. Where the hell was Sammy when he needed him? Getting something to eat, his ass! He totally knew she was gonna break down; that's what the whole sneaky smile was about, Dean just knew it.
So here he was, with a sobbing former investigative reporter on his hands and all he could do was frown and fidget. He hated seeing her like this, even if he was the farthest thing from admitting it.
"He-He... UGH!" she exclaimed, shaking her head. She looked up at him with tearful green eyes and a quivering mouth. "He chose her! My cousin! Practically my sister!" she nearly screamed, throwing her hands up. "Why? Why must I be surrounded by all these beautiful women? Huh? I mean the second he sees them, it's like I don't even exist anymore!" She sniffled, her shoulders hunching.
He'd met Lois; more than once. Ever since Chloe became an unofficial faucet of information for him and Sammy, he was seeing the inquisitive blonde more and more. To him, Lois didn't even compare to Chloe. And he could admit it, to himself at least, he had a whammy of a crush on her. Just his luck that she was hung up on some farmboy in Kansas that must've been blind as a bat if he was giving any woman a second look when he had Chloe standing right in front of him.
Sighing, Dean stared at her, unsure what to do. And then either genius or insanity struck and he was helping her stand up from the bed. He walked her into the bathroom, she wasn't fighting him off out of sheer misery, and after rinsing out a cloth, he wiped her face clean of the mascara running rivers down her cheeks. She stared up at him with red-rimmed eyes and swollen lips and he had to clear his throat and look away before he did something stupid... Like kiss her.
Instead, he turned her around to face the mirror, lifted her chin and looked at her over her shoulder. "I dunno Kent... Personally, I don't really want to." He shrugged indifferently. "But what I do know is that the guy's an idiot."
Her brow furrowed.
"Look at yourself, Chlo." He half-smiled. "You're gorgeous." He lifted a shoulder. "Whatever guy doesn't see that... Hell... He's a goddamn idiot in my books."
She stared at herself in the mirror, eyes wandering over her own reflection. And yeah, maybe to some she didn't look picture perfect. No make up, freshly washed up, hair in disarray from her hands pushing through it over and over. But to him, right then, she was beautiful.
"Dean..." She looked up at him and he stared into her green eyes through the mirror.
"Would I lie to you?" He lifted a brow.
She smiled.
He grinned, kissed her temple and nodded. "Good. Now quit with the crying. Let's go find Sammy and my grub."
Laughing, she took his hand and followed him out of the bathroom and he told himself he wasn't on cloud nine just from that little touch. Because that would be a pansy ass thing to think, even if he just a fell a little more for the vibrant woman next to him.
