Quick Memo: The reason for this story being so short is because it was originally written by me and turned in for a narrative paragraph in an English class. After all, it was only supposed to be just a paragraph. However, I take no credit for thinking up such a fantastic world.
They were catching up quick. I ran as fast as my legs could go, leaping over logs, and dodging trees. With each bound, my muscles screamed with anguish. I couldn't stop... not now that I was so close to reaching my goal. Pleading with my legs, begging them to keep going, I saw what my heart had been longing to see. Just beyond the border of the trees was where my freedom lie in wait. I had to reach the edge of the forest. With the thought of this ringing in my head, a sudden burst of adrenaline surged through me like an electric shock, powering my will and body. Feeding off this, I ran, it seemed, faster than humanly possible. I was almost there... I could feel the happiness that radiated from the other side of the wall of trees.
The feeling of something course wrapping around my ankle brought everything to a screeching halt. Time itself seemed to stop. I laid there on the ground, the grim realization that my destination was no longer growing closer setting in; it seemed to just sit there, mocking me. Every breath I took echoed in my head.
The rope began to tighten, and I was being dragged backward.
I looked back at the monster that was pulling it, and then looked forward again. I plunged my hands into the muddy earth, fighting to pull myself away... but the beast was too strong.
A net was thrown over me, and the large figure came forward, grabbing my face to take a better look at me. He then called to several others in a gruff voice, "This is the one!"
I jerked my face out of his grasp, and hissed, "Get your hands off me, you dumb, dirty ape!"
I was soon surrounded by the other ape-men, and they loaded me into a small cage atop a cart. They were taking me back... back to a world where apes ruled.
