Summary: Millia's private thoughts regarding Zato-1 before Eddie came into the picture.
Author's Notes: I got inspired to do this after I finished Venom's. Sort of another side of the spectrum, so to speak?I like exploring their relationship before the game. It's fairly uncharted and leaves a lot up to the imagination. Which makes it perfect for fanfiction.

As far as the title goes, I named it 'of Ice and Water' because I thought that name reflected this fic fairly well. Millia seems to be ice to everyone, but to those that truly know her, she melts into water. This is actually one of my favorite titles.

Your presence relaxes me, you know. I may not be able to show it in public, but when it's just you and I, my very soul itself is at ease.

I've always been able to show you what I can't show anyone else. Even with our love, when I know someone is looking at us, I can't participate in the engagements of affection you'd expect of those in relationships. It's because I can't show my true self -- the Millia that you know -- to those I don't trust. You understand that, and that's what I love most about you. I'll never have to explain myself to you.

That doesn't mean that I won't sneak a kiss when no one is around. I'm just that addicted to your kisses, I suppose.

On the outside, I'm distant. To everyone else, I don't care as much as I should. But we know the truth, don't we? The truth is that once the doors close at night, I become my true self and rest in your arms.

You've shown me so much in the time that I've known you. About you, about skill and wisdom...and even things about myself that I never would have known otherwise. I'm thankful for the time that we've spent together, and for the love that I've found in you. I was sure I'd never find anything like this.

For once, I'm glad I was wrong.

I love you, Zato. More than I've ever loved anything in my entire life. Every time our gazes meet, I know I'm alive.

As long as I can see my eyes reflected in yours, I know everything will be alright.
