As You Wish

Takes place around 2.16 There's the Rub. Jess's thoughts on Rory and Dean.

Frustration courses through me as I look at her sitting next to him. I over hear her express her views on The Princess Bride to him. He pays her no attention, looking for an opening to change the subject. I have been a discreet and unknown viewer to many similar interactions between the two. She is in her own world, high on discussing literature. He is clueless and bored, trying and failing to appear intrigued. She has never once seemed to notice his lack of interest in what she is saying. But with her it isn't ignorance; it's innocence, naivety. I sigh as I think to myself that she will never know how much I wish to be in his place.

A few days later she comes into the diner and asks for coffee.

"As you wish," I reply. And once again her naivety becomes evident, for she does not know what possessed me to say that certain phrase.

"Her heart was a secret garden and the walls were very high."
