L's sentence was cut off as his chest constricted. He felt his breath forcefully pulled from his chest. A cold crept from his fingertips up his arms and from his toes to his feet. The cold crept up till it focused on his heart. His awareness faded for a millisecond before he found himself off the chair he had been crouching on and in the arms of Light-kun. He could not move or speak, could not warn the task force. He was frozen in a burning, tundra. He could only see Light-kun hovering above him. His vision fading to blackness at the edges only showing him Light-kun. His theories confirmed. But he was desperate for an escape, for this to be a lie. But as his vision faded finally and the cold took his heart, his last image was that of Kira. The victorious smile from Light, confirming his death.

Light and dark ceased to have meaning. Up and down had no direction. Pain and pleasure ran smoothly into each other. Good and evil gave up their definitions. Kira no longer meant death and L no longer meant justice as everything faded. It was not dark yet it was not light.

But there was something. In the distance or right next to him I'm L could not tell but there were two things in this endless nothing. A white that was not bright and a black that was not dark. They twisted and enlarged. They became two women. One of purest white the other an untainted black. Twins in height and shape but opposites in everything else. The one of white with hair as white as her gown, the one of black a twin copy, their hair flowing to their hips and hiding their faces.

As if they truly were the same they held out a hand in unison. A voice echoed in the nothingness.

"Come with me." It was spoken both coolly and forcefully, reverberating all around L.

But L found he could not respond. He had no voice in this nothingness. His did not deter the two women though. They simultaneously came closer to him. He could catch glimmers of their features now. He was struck by how infinitely identical they were.

L felt drawn to the two but he could not decide which to take the hand of for that was what he had deduced they wished for him to do. He felt pressured as if this was the most important decision in his existence.

The one in white seemed annoyed and impatient at his reluctance to choose as a growl bubbled from the space around her. She moved towards him, breaking the synchronisation between the two women. In pure instinct L flinched back but his movements were sluggish and he felt resistance around him. As she lunged the woman in white's hair flew from her face and L saw her face in full. She had her mouth pulled in a grimace showing pointed teeth. Her eyes were wide and fixed on L. They unnerved him as no one else had ever before. Her eyes were bright and blood red, fixing him with a look of pure hate and anger.

Just as the woman in white was about to seize L in her hands that had sprouted claws, the woman in black calmly stepped forward and placed a cool hand on L's shoulder. L turned to the woman behind him. She had looked identical to the woman in white but now L could see her properly. Just as the woman in white had eyes of blood red, just like BB, this woman had eyes of glittering silver and black. The black reflected L himself that same black the L possessed. The woman in black smiled, her lips opening slightly to show him perfect pearly white teeth, perfectly opposite to the woman in white's blood stained teeth. She looked at L with love and acceptance.

The woman in white had disappeared as quickly as she had appeared, leaving the woman in black and L standing in the abyss of nothingness.

The woman spoke kindly as she swept her arm in an arc to show him the scene that had bloomed in front of them…"L Lawliet. Welcome to death."
