Down the hospital hallway, Kaidan could see Thane walking with a giant, red heart shaped box in his hands. Thane shot a smile as he neared the door. For a master assassin, he had a very friendly and at times a very socially awkward type of character. The drell entered the glass room, his large black eyes beamed with pride as he held the large heart up in front of himself for Kaidan to see.

"What'd you get me?" Kaidan sat up in his bed.

"This isn't for you," Thane shook his head.

"Then… why are you bringing it to me?" Kaidan asked.

"It is a five pound box of fine chocolates that I bought for Rylie," Thane sat in the bedside chair.

"Let me see that," Kaidan reached his hand out in disbelief and Thane let him feel the weight. Kaidan winced and handed it back, "Holy crap."

Thane plopped the heavy box onto his lap. His smile went away and his brow straightened out," I wanted your opinion, if that is alright?"

"Sure… about the chocolate?"

"I wanted to know if it is even appropriate? I saw this in the gift shop window, it was 75% off and I bought it without thinking. Well…more accurately all I was thinking was that she would love it. I know nothing makes her happier than food, but according to the shop owner Valentine's Day was a month ago…"

"You have nothing to worry about. I don't think the part of the world she comes from even celebrates it. Either way, all she'll see is a big chocolate filled heart coming from her sorely missed boyfriend. She'll be thinking about you and how much she loves you, while munching through it for the next year and a half," Kaidan said.

"Good. That is what I wanted to hear," Thane slide his fingers across the velvety, soft lid.

Every morning, Commander Shepard expected her second in command to read off details in documents to her. Routines, supplies, status, and various other reports, all depending on the day and concerns. She had expected this with Presley, she had expected this with Miranda, now it was Kaidan's turn. Half the time Kaidan wasn't sure she was listening to him. Though she concerned him more these days than angered him.

"You feeling okay?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she reached into one of the big pockets of her uniform pants and pulled out balled up piece of tissue. As Kaidan continued to read off a report from Thessia, he noticed that inside the tissue were pieces of chocolate. She shuffled them around with a single finger, then popped the chosen one into her mouth and stuffed the tissue back into her pocket. Out of the corner of her mouth she said, "You can't have one."

"Don't worry, I wasn't even going to bother to ask," Kaidan said.

"I nearly had to break Vega's fingers the other day," she mumbled as they continued on down the Normandy hallway.
