This is most likely taking place in anime-verse. I made a ridiculous reference in here to a novel I dislike, but the line was interesting and literally this was the first image that popped into my head when I read it.
Pairing: Thief King Bakura/Ryou (Gemshipping)
Summary: There are things he doesn't understand and never will, but he knows when to simply sit back and accept things as they are.
Disclaimer: Yu-Gi-Oh isn't mine. Not the manga, anime, or card game.
There are things that Ryou doesn't understand about the Thief King. He doesn't understand why this man, who could have anything in the world, somehow had nothing. He didn't understand why this same man, the self-proclaimed King of Thieves, would take some sort of interest in him of all people, and linger on him when his sights had been set on bigger, better people.
Ryou reaches up with one hand to touch the thief's face. He's lying down, with the other man kneeling over him, eyes locked. Without thinking, he lifts his other hand to come and rest behind the Thief-King's leg, though he is barely touching the skin.
"Thief-King," he whispers, "Why do you keep me here?"
He hears a low laugh and sees a flash of white briefly, and suddenly there's a kiss being placed on his forehead. Another laugh, and then a voice: "Because," the thief answers, "We're connected."
He pulls away from Ryou, and makes a gesture to his chest. "I fell," he starts, locking eyes with the Host again, "That there's some sort of rope, tied here --" he closes his fist "-- and the other end --" he draws an invisible path in the air, stopping at Ryou's chest to touch it gently at first, then press his palm against the skin "-- is tied here."
"So we're connected," Ryou replied. His eyes move from the hand on his chest back to the Thief-King's eyes as he speaks again. "But then why won't you let me leave?"
"Because, Host," the thief murmurs, leaning in to lick at the shell of Ryou's ear. "Because you're mine."
The King of Thieves begins to kiss down Ryou's jawline, to his neck, and bites the pale boy's flesh (which Ryou knows shouldn't be real, yet somehow it is) with the intent to mark him, own him. Ryou's breathing grows slightly more laboured and his half-lidded eyes turn to gaze at the various gold and silver trinkets littering the dirty floor. Every single one of those beautiful treasures has been stolen: the King of Thieves takes whatever he pleases without a second thought, and once he had something he knew never to let it go. Ryou supposes that in the end that's really all he is: a treasure, a possession of the other man's, never meant to be seen or shared with anyone. But he doesn't fight or protest, because he's treated well and almost lovingly, if these displays of affection (which he knows aren't characteristic of the thief) are anything to base a claim off of. Besides, he doesn't have anywhere else to go in this strange new world he's woken up in. He assumes that nothing is truly real here, if only because he knows that this man, Bakura, the King of Thieves, is the only one aware of his existence. Nobody else can see or hear or feel Ryou.
He sighs and shivers as he feels more kisses being pressed against his neck, and he simply stops fighting. He's real for one person, at least, so he lets this man win for now. He supposes that it's really not much different from his regular life, seeing as his body was never really his to begin with. The Spirit of the Ring found many ways to ensure that he never forgot it: perhaps this was yet another one of those ways. So he leans back and smiles to himself. The Thief-King can win for now, and do as he pleases.
Ryou knows how the game will end, after all.
