Dawn, Noon, and Dusk by Kara Tezla
Summary: Basically, a small drabble featuring the previous Monday's Dusk and how he feels about Dame Primus.
Disclaimer: I do NOT own anything that has to do the Keys to the Kingdom OR anything else that Garth Nix conjures up in that brain of his... in other words, if you don't mind the pun... I do not own Nothing, because Nothing belongs to Garth Nix.
Author's Note: I have not read Sir Thursday, and I am only about a fourth of the way through Drowned Wednesday. Don't hurt me if things have changed with my beloved Monday's Noon... let me find out for myself so I can smack myself on the head.
Monday's Noon stood at Dame Primus' right hand. His notepad and writing quill prepared for whatever the Will might need. Ever since his promotion to Noon, Dusk, formerly Noon, has hated him for claiming his previous roll. Dawn didn't care, and personally, she actually preferred the former Dusk to be Noon rather than the former Noon who became Dusk.
Of course, he was very appreciative of Sir Arthur Penhaligon, Master of the Lower House, for advance in rank, but he felt that Dame Primus should not have been appointed above him.
"Noon?" Said Suzy Turquoise Blue while tugging at his sleeve.
Noon flinched at the sudden noise. "Yes, Miss Blue?" He asked, looking down at the small girl.
He then realized that Dame Primus was also staring at him. Her eyes slightly questioning his.
"Did I miss something?" Noon asked.
"Yes, Monday's Tierce is waiting for you to create her a pair of temporary wings." Dame Primus replied.
Noon didn't reach to tear off a piece of paper; instead, he cleared his throat. "And why, Madam, can't you do that?"
Dame Primus gave him a smile. "That's why I have you."
Noon slid the quill into his pocket and ripped off a piece of paper without another word. His swift fingers quickly folded the paper and with a flick of his wrist, the paper sprouted feathers. He turned Suzy around and with a light tap, attached the wings to her back.
"There," Noon muttered.
"Thank you, Noon," Monday's Tierce grinned; flapping the snow white wings a couple times.
Noon smiled back and turned back to Dame Primus' attention. He could hear the small beats of Suzy's wings as she flew away. The Will stared at her lesser, as if she was considering something; then she spoke.
"Noon," she said simply.
"Yes?"
"You may leave for now," Dame Primus gave him a thin smile. "But I will need you again, and I don't know how soon."
Noon bowed and left the room; glad to be out of the Will's presence. He would continue to believe that he should be at least as powerful as Dame Primus. At least, he wouldn't make people do things for him like she did.
It probably wouldn't happen, but he could still wish, couldn't he?
Thank you for reading. This is my first time writing a Keys of the Kingdom fanfic, and there may be another one on the way. Reviews are appreciated, as always, I always like to know what people think.
