this ain't a fairytale
thresh can't lie to this little girl
"We're not going to make it out of this alive, are we?" Rue asks, voice delicate and small.
Thresh has a thousand answers for this little girl who still believes in fairy tales, each of them able to tear her heart apart or mend the cracking pieces into a whole. He has a little niece back home, with curls as tight as Rue's; Thresh could never lie to her, but some things are best left to stories.
Except this isn't a story and there are no happy endings in reality and Rue knows this, just as much as his niece does and children are more world weary than adults are-Rue will know if he lies to her.
In the end, Thresh looks her in the eye and says, "No."
