It was a cold leafbare morning, after many moons of the mysterious disappearance of prey around our pine forest. Barkweb and I were just beginning to settle down after being on the dawn patrol when Brakenstar came padding up to us

"Eat some prey and report back to my den," the elderly, tom rasped.

As Brakenstar padded away, Barkweb and I exchanged a worried glance, then padded towards the fresh kill pile. I grabbed a small thrush while Barkweb picked a plump vole. After we finished our prey, we reported straight to Brakenstar's den.

When we arrived, we found him laying on his nest talking to the deputy, Oceanshell.

Oceanshell quickly noticed us and meowed, "We would like to patrol for any suspicious behavior in the forest. Some of the other warriors have noticed a strange scent."

Barkweb and I replied in unison, "we will report anything that we find!"

As we trotted through the forest, Barkweb and I began to talk.

"I have something to tell you but I…… don't know how," Barkweb started.

I looked over to him and meowed, "You can tell me anything, I won't mind!"

Barkweb nodded and replied, " I….I…. love you!"

I looked over to him and said startled, "I love you too, since we became friends!"

Barkweb looked into my eyes and asked, "Is that true?"

"It is, I have loved you for a long time, since before I was a warrior," I looked back into his eyes

Suddenly I heard a rustling in the undergrowth, and we both looked up, startled. I scented the air. It was a FOX. The fox ran out from its hiding place among the bushes. I looked at barkweb and we attacked. At first, we thought we could take it. I was sure I had only scented one, but suddenly a whole pack appeared from the undergrowth. Bam!!!! I was hit by a giant forepaw. I slammed into a tree. And the last thing I saw was Barkweb, watching me, He smiled, and then my vision was cut off by blood.

I began to hear Rivermeadow's voice meowing frantically, "I need more cobwebs in here!!! She is still bleeding out!!!

Reedkit yowls from Rivermeadows den, "On my way!!"

Everything was so blurry, and half of my normal vision was black. I stuttered, "What happened ?" I tried to lift my head, but was stopped by a soft voice.

"Don't try to move, you have a bad injury," Rivermeadow mewed softly.

"I…I can't see on this side!!"I screamed, scared as hell.

"I was afraid of that, I am sorry but your attack from the foxes made you blind in one eye", Rivermeadow meowed sadly.

THE FOX ATTACK!!!! "where is Barkweb?!" I yelled, "He should be here too!!!"

"…follow me…" Rivermeadow replied softly as she helped me to my paws.

I followed her slowly, until we reached the clearing and I saw Barkweb lying there. I yowled, "NOOOO!!!" and ran toward his lifeless body. Why had this all happened?

I had lost both my sight AND my love.

Rivermeadow tried to comfort me, but nothing could fix what had happened………
