Hail, Thane of Glamis, Cawdor, Hail
The three sisters did wail
Hail, Macbeth, for he is king
The three sisters did sing
Me, king, Macbeth said how can that be
Banquo says, let's wait and see
Macbeth, Macbeth, a messenger does call
Macbeth is Thane of Cawdor, he tells them all
Macbeth it is true, Banquo said
Oh no, I really must dread
Don't believe them Banquo warns
Or a consequence you will mourn
Hurray, the war we have won
Duncan says, now Malcolm, my son
I need an heir so let's all hear
I name it although few my leer
My hearts content
My will, will not be bent.
Oh pity, Macbeth does sigh, now I must leap
Or else weep
The step that the king has put in my way
I'll wait and see what my wife does say
Oh yes, Lady Macbeth does sing
My husband may be king
Oh, then I shall be queen
But the way to do it I must be mean
Oh Duncan is to stay here
Where he is near
Oh, it would be a pity,
If he died in my city…
Oh, my lady wife
With this bloody knife
I am having second thoughts
Oh dear, she says, do not be caught
Do not be ensnared
Do not even care
For we need to do this
We need to give the king one last kiss
For if you stopped it would be like I dropped
My newborn babe, at my breast,
Come on, we must not rest.
The poem is based on Act 1 of Macbeth.
The first part describes the witches and when Macbeth becomes Thane of Cawdor. It also shows Banguo's uneasiness, "The instruments of darkness, Win us with honest trifles, to betray's In deepest consequence".
In the second part describes how Duncan names Malcolm his heir to the throne. Macbeth sees this as a step in his way to be king. "The Prince of Cumberland! that is a step On which I must fall down, or else o'er leap".
The third part Lady Macbeth is speaking. She just finds out that Macbeth may be king and she is happy, but she sees Duncan as in the way. She then finds out that he is to stay at her castle. She says, "The raven himself is hoarse That croaks the fatal entrance of Duncan Under my Battlements".
The fourth part describes Macbeth having second thoughts, "First I am his kinsmen and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then I am as his host, Not bear the bloody knife myself". But Lady Macbeth talks him out of it. She says it is like killing her newborn baby.
The poem shows how Lady Macbeth has an influence on Macbeth and unlike the end of the play, Macbeth has a conscience
~Banquo's prophesy is not mentioned in my poem.
