She didn't take what Winn said seriously. She'd been in relationships before, she'd thought she'd been in love before, and there was never a moment that hit her like 'Wapow'. It had always been slow, gradual, until she finally felt comfortable enough to revel in the affection. The relationship usually ended very soon after she found that feeling, but she wasn't going to mention that.

Winn was just so caught up in fantasy of love. Not Kara. She was a little more realistic about it. She went on dates with men she matched with online because it added up. They shared ambitions, goals, lifestyle choices. Affection would come with compatibility. Winn would eventually understand that.

Cat Grant grated her nerves every day, but she still hadn't found a way to get under Kara's super strong skin. So when a long list of tasks with little digs and jabs littered in-between was given to her, Kara barely blinked. Get the layouts. Easy.

All she had to do was walk into the office, ask for the layouts, threaten the wrath of the boss if she was denied immediately, and then race back to Cat's office to receive another round of barely hidden insults.

And so she did, he responded with denying, as she expected, and she began to threaten like planned, and then the guy stood up and turned and she forgot the plan.

He was so… Was her heart fluttering? No, it was hammering. He was gorgeous. Tall. Handsome. She could see his muscles straining under his button down shirt. And his smile. Oh his perfect smile. She felt like she'd do backflips for the rest of her life to see that forever.

Whoa, Kara.

What was she here for? Something about laying…?

But then she spotted a blur of red against a city skyline and her heart began to slow.

Superman.

Kara could hardly contain her excitement upon seeing the picture of him. She'd seen it many times and wondered. She's envious of his purpose, of what he does every day compared to what she does. She chose this life, the boring wallflower, but it never stopped her from wondering what it would be like to be photographed like this, adored and applauded, helping people, saving lives, doing amazing things in the name of keeping others safe.

She realized who the man making jittery was rather quickly. James 'Jimmy' Olsen. A personal friend of Superman. Talk about a small world.

He got her heart hammering again in less than a second. He just gave her the picture, no hesitation. It was like he knew she wanted everything to do with it, let alone needed. And then he told her she resembled her cousin and her heart soared. She could have flown around the room in circles if she wasn't used to hiding that part of her.

Her brain autopiolted her out of James' office after she finally introduced herself. Layouts be damned, Kara was suddenly on top of the world.

"Wapow."

AN: Sorry for not getting this scene 100% right. I'm a little fuzzy on the entire interaction and had to use tumblr gifs to piece it all together, but I plan to go back and edit after I rewatch the pilot a few times!
