Misa Amane scribbled down names furiously in her notebook, occasionally looking over where Light Yagami sat, working on his computer. She didn't dare go against his orders, for she knew if she did, he would scream at her. And she hated that.
She was in love with him.
A part of her wanted to believe he loved her, too. The realistic part, however, realised that Light was just using her as his pawn, someone who would do his dirty work for him and would never leave him. Someone who would love him unconditionally.
To make it worse, Misa knew that Light was cheating on her with some other chick named Kiyomi Takada. She was the spokesperson for his show, and Misa knew that he had dated her years ago. She was jealous of the older girl's refined beauty and grace, and the way Light looked at her. The way Light never looked at Misa.
Yet she didn't mind being used. It was better to be with Light, hating life, than to not be in his life at all. She had never dreamed that Kira, the man who had punished the burglar that killed her parents, would be so young and handsome. And a genius, of course.
Light glanced over at Misa, watching her write down the names. Although Kiyomi was smarter, prettier, better, there was something about Misa that had kept him from killing her. He watched her long blonde hair hang down around her face as she moved, and he smiled secretly to himself.
He would never admit it, but Light loved her, too.
