A short episode tag to "The Last Man," so there are spoilers for all of season four plus the season four finale in this fic. It's a Rodney and Keller snippet, and I hope you all enjoy.
No Regrets
"Rodney." Jennifer whispered with all of her strength. "Rodney."
Rodney picked his head up from the side of Jennifer's hospital bed. "I'm so sorry, I must've fallen asleep."
"It's ok, don't worry about it. I just wanted to know how that new system of math was coming along." Jennifer whispered with humor evident in her soft voice.
"It's coming along fine." Rodney lied. He just wanted to see some hope in Jennifer's eyes, and he wanted, needed, to convince himself that the calculations were possible as well.
"I told you that I had no regrets, right?" Jennifer asked Rodney.
"Yeah you did." Rodney answered back to her. He squeezed her hand a little tighter to show her that he was still there.
"Rodney, I know that you're planning on changing the past with your new math system, but there's one thing I need you to know. Even if you want to change the past, I need you to remember that I love you. I love you so much that words can't describe it. I have no regrets on going to Atlantis because I met you, and no regrets leaving Atlantis because I finally got to be with you. These two past years have been the most amazing two years of my life. And now, I will die knowing that I spent the last year of my life in the arms of the person that I love." Her voice was getting weaker with each word she said, they both knew that it was almost the end.
Rodney was now in tears. Looking at the woman he loved, saying her last words to him. It was almost too much for him to bear.
"I love you too Jennifer." Rodney choked out in between his tears. "More than anything." He squeezed her hand tighter, as she slowly closed her eyes.
"I love you Rodney." Jennifer whispered. Rodney felt her hand grow limp underneath his.
"Jennifer." Rodney called. He felt like his whole world was crashing down on him.
"I have to fix this Jennifer." Rodney said through his tears. He placed a lingering kiss on her cold limp hand, and he kept it within his own. "I have to fix this, so none of this happens. I have to do this to save you, save the Atlantis team, save the Pegasus Galaxy. I'm doing it because I love you." He placed another kiss on her hand before the SGC nurses began to shuffle him away from Jennifer's dead body. He never took his eyes off of her while the nurses began to tear away all of the wires from her petite pale body.
"I won't have any regrets Jennifer. I promise."
