The Storm

A look into the mind of Brittany S. Pierce

It's all sunshine and blue skies outside, but there's a storm raging inside of her head, travelling down way deep into her heart.

It cuts into the happiness that resides there, until all that remains is whitewash, until all that's left is where her best friend should be.

(People forget sometimes, that even though they're girlfriends, now – her best friend is still Santana).

But Santana's moved away. She's done what she promised to never, ever do….she left her. And not for the sake of leaving her, not to escape her – Brittany knows this. But what she doesn't understand is why Santana didn't just take her, too.

It's not like she's going to graduate….

Oh, she knows that she could! It's just that… that's the hard part. She knows, that if she really put her back into it, if she pretended, at least for a little while, that school was as important to her as dancing, as Santana, or as the summer skies and how they feel after a rainy day….she could pass.

But she's too ashamed to ask for help. She's too scared that when she finally does go to a teacher to say she'd like a tutor…they won't believe her. Not even her friends will believe her. Or if they do…they'll open up their text books and they'll sit her down…but they won't try hard enough. Because she's "stupid!".

Nobody ever takes Brittany seriously. Only Santana knew her, only Santana trusted her….maybe even more than Brittany could trust herself.

Because she left Brittany here, in Lima with no one to run to anymore, no one to hold at night – and she believed in her enough to say, 'you can come and Dance here, next fall'.

But Brittany doesn't know if she can, really.

She doesn't love anyone here enough to bare her soul – to lay herself open and say 'I screwed up.'

How can she? She can hear everyone's whispers; she can feel their pity pounding into her back. They think she's going to die without Santana because she's useless. When in reality, she's going to crumble because only Santana saw that she was whole.
