The Ponds.

The Ponds have gone.

Farewell to not just to The Doctor's companions in the TARDIS, but in his heart as well.

The Doctor turns around. Rory has just disappeared and The Doctor knows what has just happened as he looks into the eyes of the weeping angel. He knows what he must say. He knows what he can't do. Amy turns around. Fear is splashed across her face as she turns to him with all the faith she has ever had in him. "The Doctor always has a way", they all said constantly. Not today, today Amelia's heart will break and he will be to blame. Rory is gone and it's his fault.

"Why didn't you protect him?"

"Why did you take us here?"

As he utters the dreaded response, and Amy turns around, he knows what she will do. She can't do this. She won't. Please don't.

Stubborn Amelia. Lovely Amelia. Amelia Pond, like a fairytale.

It's no use, but it doesn't stop him. He pleads. He prays. He begs. As tear slide down his face he tries one more time and sees young Amelia as he repeats this phrase once more.

"Come along Pond….please."

He absorbs the last images of the beautiful tearing Amy. The world around him dwindles into unimportance as she speaks her last words which cement the reality of the situation into his hearts.

"Raggedy Man…goodbye."

"Doctor, I've been calling you for the last fi-", River stops as she encounters her husband sitting down in the middle of the open TARDIS doors. It doesn't take a brilliant mind to figure out that he was crying and wanted to be alone. She respected this decision and turned to walk back towards the control room when he breaks the silence between the two.

"This is where I held your mother's hand has she floated on outside. The wonder in her eyes made me smile. It was so innocent and childlike, like a child's first snowfall. It was the start of many memories that would expand after her first adventure with me. You should have seen her…" The words became undecipherable when his emotions came seeping through again. It was indescribable seeing such a strong and courageous man at his most vulnerable.

She walked and approached her love and slowly sat next to him. He looked over and had a small smile. As he did this River entwined her hand around him and laid her head on his shoulder. She gazed off into the nebula in front of them.

"The Ponds are not quite gone yet."

He did not turn towards River as he said this, but this sentence came from the depths of his troubled and tortured hearts.

"Melody Pond, don't ever leave my grasp. I can't be alone, not with the things I've seen. I need you."

The slight squeeze of their hands was all the assurance he acquired.
