Summary: "Hakoda dearly wanted his first born to be a boy"
It takes a moment for Hakoda to understand that his high hopes and dreams are lying cracked on the icy floors of his wife's birthing chamber. (It's his fault too, though he can't admit it right now). And he cannot help but feel the twenty or so presences that he knows are waiting for him outside the igloo. (He does not know what he will tell them. That not even he, Chief Hakoda, is favored enough by the spirits to bless them with the boy they so desperately need).
"What shall we call her?" his wife inquires softly, half to him and half to the squalling child.
"Sokka," he says. His son's name.
"Hakoda-."
"Her name will be Sokka," he snaps, stomping out of the hut.
(It changes nothing.)
