Hey guys! Thanks for reading my first fanfic! this was orginally an assignment for my English class, but I decided to post it online for others to enjoy. Depending on the story's success, I will decide whether or not to post more chapters. Anyway, thanks and I hope you enjoy my story! ~smilee098
One evening, I just decided to take a break from my normal routine, just to ponder my situation. Why had I even decided to comply with the demon's request? He promised to quit to a deserted region and dwell in peace. However, there always is the possibility that this second creature may not even want to live this way. I can't even imagine what kind of damage she could be capable of causing. But I promised, and I can't go back on my decision, not now. With this resolution, I decided to return to my chamber and continue my work the next morning.
Over the next two months, I labored over this project. Slowly, it became my obsession. Sometimes, I would go days without sleep just to reach a milestone in my work. I was succumbing back into the insanity I tried so hard avoid. I became so paranoid; at times, I swear I could sense the presence of the wretch who put me up to this task, but he always kept his distance. He just watched from afar.
Finally my project was finished. I called out to the demon in the night so he could retrieve his companion. He entered my makeshift laboratory. As I awakened his companion, he leaned over her as she gained consciousness. As he requested, she was of the same species. His eyes had a look of love as she stared into his eyes. I was slightly moved by their immediate attraction, but the feeling quickly subsided. I refused to feel anything but hatred for these abominable creatures.
The demon gazed at me with thanks, but I turned my head in disgust. The female gazed at me with wonder and amazement, instantly recognizing me as her creator. Her appearance made me gag; she looked almost exactly like my first project— "Her name will be Victoria." The demon's hoarse voice interrupted my thoughts. "And I have decided to name myself Edmund. We do need names to call each other." He paused. "Thank you for everything. You have fulfilled your promise, so I must also. We will retreat to the uninhabited lands of the world. It may not be the happiest way to live, but it will be peaceful. We will have no contact with any human, as I agreed. We will go now. Thank you." His eyes sparkled with joy and gratitude as he helped his companion out the door.
I felt like the weight I've been holding lift off my shoulders as I became alone. I could finally go back to my love and live the rest of my life in peace. No one else can be hurt by my actions, not anymore.
