Meredith is pregnant. Meredith Grey is pregnant. Derek and Meredith are going to have another baby. It's freaking amazing news!
Just a little something after 9.07, which honestly, the last scene I can't stop watching.
Meredith was pregnant.
That's all Derek could think about. His wife was pregnant. He and Meredith were going to have another baby. It was something he dreamed about for the longest time but didn't think would ever happen.
When they got Zola back, they were beyond thrilled. She was their first baby; she helped them realize that having a child and being parents made their lives joyous and happy.
So when he looked in the bag, pulled out the pink shirt and saw the words "World's Best Big Sister", he looked at Meredith and her smile that was all the confirmation he needed.
He understood her fears, her concerns but he knew that everything would be okay too. Bad things may have happened to them but good things happened too. And Meredith being pregnant was proof of that.
"How are you feeling" Derek asked once he let go, "Any morning sickness? Cravings" He asked curious and excited.
"Surprising really good." Meredith replied, "No morning sickness…yet, and I haven't had any real cravings; but don't worry I'm sure those will start soon." She told him.
"How did you figure out that you're pregnant? And keep it a secret?" He asked her, 3 weeks wasn't that long but from what he remembered during his sisters being pregnant 3 weeks was enough for a lot to happen to a female's body.
"I was late, and after I took about half a dozen tests I finally let it sink in" She confessed. When she saw the first test, she couldn't believe her eyes, it was only after she took the 5 other ones she realized it. She was pregnant. She was going to have another baby. Her and Derek were going to have a second child.
"This is…"
"I know". Meredith said. She knew exactly what he was thinking and she thought the same thing too. The doctor said she had a "hostel uterus" and after she heard that, she thought her chances of having another baby and carrying another child were slim.
But now she was 3 weeks pregnant and she couldn't be happier.
"But I'm serious Derek, you can't tell anyone." Meredith told him, "I'm not even going to tell Cristina until after the first trimester." She wasn't going to jinx this.
"Mer", he said softly, "Believe me, I'm not going to say a word to anyone. We'll announce it together when you're ready." He knew and understood her fears; and he'd do anything for her. "When do you want to tell Zo?"
"Uh, good question…she'll probably start noticing things, won't she?"
"Morning sickness and cravings, yes. But we can make something up." He told her. Zola was at the age where she was repeating everything and he knew if they said the word 'baby', everyone would know.
"Right, good".
"Meredith…" Derek said, shifting on the couch to look at her, "I promise you that everything is going to be okay, better than okay. You'll see 9 months from now, we'll have a healthy baby girl or boy."
"How do you know?"
"I just do." He told her, it wasn't a promise but a fact. "From this moment, things are going to change for the better."
"Like you getting your hand fixed?" She asked him hesitantly.
"Like me getting my hand fixed." He told her, "You were right. It's not only about my career but; not doing the surgery, is like I'm not moving past what happened. And I need to. I want to."
She leaned in cradled his face in her hand as she kissed him, softly yet passionately.
"I love you." She told him.
"I love you too" He replied. "You, Zola and Baby Shepherd." Placing his hand under her shirt over her abdomen, where their second baby continued to grow.
