A punishment for something that happened long before these children were even alive
A punishment for something these 24 children had no control over
Yet they are in the arena
Fighting for their lives.
Children killing children
The games are played to put out the sparks of a rebellion
To leave the country in ashes
In smoldering coals
That are never allowed to flare.
The games don't just take lives
The take families
They take friends
They take lovers away from each other without a goodbye
Without a parting kiss
They don't just take your life
The games take everything that you are.
