New story. Yay! Not much to say, I had to get this up quickly. I'm kinda busy but enjoy.
February 2019 Update. I have gone through this and majorly updated it and stuff.
Ch.1
Day 110
On a day like any other, Roxas entered into the Grey Room. As usual he would walk up to Saix and receive the papers for his mission for that day. It had been the same thing over and over again, but that was what was expected of him. At least by the end of each day he could join his friends at the clock tower for ice cream.
Today though Roxas noticed something was different as soon as he looked over the papers Saix handed him. Unlike his normal missions that had a number and the world location, this paper had big letters at the top that read 'Urgent Mission'. Roxas tilted his head slightly as he started to look over the papers, but it seemed that Saix also decided to explain the reasoning behind the unusual mission.
"Roxas, there is a strange power coming from somewhere around here in this world. It is unknown where it came from or how it got to be here. But we need you to go and investigate and find out where this strange power is coming from."
"What do I do when I find where the strange power is coming from?" Roxas asked.
"Destroy it as quickly as possible and then report back here," Saix stated. "We cannot let such a power stay out there for much longer."
"But… what is it that am I looking for?" Roxas asked as he glanced at the papers. Nothing was really clear about what he was looking for. The only information on the paper was that his objective was to find the source. "I can't really go destroy something when I don't know what it looks like."
Saix sighed. "None of us know what this creature is or may be. We have no been able to properly locate it, but we know it is in the area. All we know is that it could prove to be very dangerous. If you can find the source of the strange power, then you shall destroy whatever is it. Understood?"
Roxas nodded and went to prepare himself before leaving on his new mission. He left the Castle that Never Was and started to explore around The World that Never Was. It only took a few minutes until Shadow Heartless appeared around Roxas. It wasn't a surprise as Roxas summoned his keyblade and swung it at the Heartless. He knew already that Heartless roamed around this world like many of the other worlds, so these were obviously not the strange power he was looking for.
After clearing the area of the Heartless, Roxas continued walking until he saw something run down one of the alleyways. Whatever it was, now was hiding in the darkened shadows of the alleyway.
"Another Heartless? Did I miss one?" Roxas thought as he slowly got closer. It was hard to tell, but he could just barely see the outline of whatever it was. "No it doesn't look like Heartless… It looks like... a person." Roxas stepped closer to the person, but as soon as he did the person started to back up.
"Stay away," he heard the person say. It was the voice of a girl.
Roxas wondered for a moment why the girl wanted him to stay away. "Maybe she was hurt by the Heartless…" But Roxas also wondered why there was just a girl in the World that Never Was. It just seemed a little odd. "Why would a person be out in this world? No one is really suppose to be out here expect for the Organization."
"Are you okay?" Roxas asked as he got closer to the girl. He knew she had told him to say away, but he couldn't help but wonder if she needed help.
The girl didn't respond and continued to walk away from Roxas until she backed up against the wall behind her. She had reached the end of the alley and now she had no place to go. As Roxas approached her, he finally got a better look of the girl. She was wearing dark blue jeans and had a black long sleeved jacket on with black gloves on her hands. Roxas couldn't see what her face looked like because she had had cap on as well as the hood of her jacket pulled far over her face.
"How strange," Roxas thought to himself. Even though he still didn't know why the girl was there, he decided to ask if the girl was okay again. "Hey please tell me if you are all right."
"I-I'm fine just stay away from me. Go away now," The girl responded.
"Why doesn't she want me to come near her? Is she maybe scared of me? But why?" Roxas thought. This girl sure was mysterious. Roxas slowly came a little closer to the girl, trying not to startle her any further. "Can you tell me how you got here?"
"I said to go away and stay away!" The girl shouted and then she ran at Roxas.
At first Roxas thought she was going to ram into him, but it looked more like she was trying to rush past him. Roxas didn't know what to do, but just as she was going to past him she tripped over herself and ended up colliding into Roxas. The two fell back to the ground within seconds. The girl seemed to be frozen with fear or shock as she laid on top of Roxas. For a few moments she looked right into his blue eyes and just stared. But after that she jumped back from him. She stumbled backwards until she fell to the ground again, groaning this time when she landed. At that moment the girl's hood slid off and the girl gasped and covered her face with her hands.
Roxas got up and approached the girl once more and crouched down in front of her. This time she didn't try to run away. He still had no idea who she was, but he felt bad for her. She seemed so terrified right now. He really wanted to do something that could maybe help her.
"Hey, it's okay, please tell me what's wrong." He could hear that the girl was crying slightly so he gently put his hand on her shoulder. The girl slowly removed her hands from her face to let Roxas see her.
Roxas let out a gasp.
Half the girl's face was completely an inky black, but it wasn't split right down her face, it looked like the blackness had spread across the left side her face and little of the right side. And the thing that shocked Roxas the most was her eyes. Her right eye was a pretty green, but her left eye...was a glowing yellow. The girl slowly reached up and took off her hat and revealed she had jet black hair tucked up under it. Her hair came down, and ended a little past her chin. Now that the hat was gone Roxas looked and saw on her head she had two antennas on her head.
That was when Roxas finally realized it. This girl looked slightly like a Shadow Heartless. Roxas had never seen anything like this before. Roxas was very confused. Was this girl the one who had the strange power that Saix told Roxas to destroy? She was strange for one thing, but Roxas didn't see how she could possibly be dangerous.
The girl looked at Roxas for what seemed like the longest time. Finally the girl spoke again. "Are you scared of me?"
Roxas snapped back into reality from his thoughts. "Uh no not really. I'm just confused… Are you a Heartless or a girl?"
The girl looked down and sighed. She seemed to hesitate slightly before she spoke. "I've never heard the term of a Heartless before… but I assume you mean those creatures that are out there. The ones that I look similar too. Well I guess then... you could say I'm both. I'm half Heartless and half girl."
"But why?" Roxas asked.
"I...I...can't remember. I don't know…"
Roxas felt sorry for her. He had never seen a girl like her and she seemed all alone and lost. If she was the strange power that he had to destroy… he wouldn't do it. Roxas wouldn't hurt this girl. She was clearly lost and alone and indeed of some help.
Roxas stood up and held out his hand. "Come with me."
"Why?" the girl asked.
"I want to help you and you probably need somewhere to sleep tonight. So come with me."
The girl let out a small smile as she picked up her her hat. She then grabbed Roxas's hand as was pulled to her feet. "Thank you."
Roxas smiled back at her and he lead her back to the Castle that Never Was. "What's your name?" Roxas asked.
"Maria. What's yours?"
"My name is Roxas," Roxas replied.
"Roxas...thank you once again for helping me. It's very nice of you."
"No problem."
The rest of their walk was pretty quiet, but it didn't take long until they were back at the Castle that Never Was. Once they got there and entered Maria seemed to looked around with surprise and amazement, though she didn't say a word. They just walked in side when Roxas heard a voice.
"Roxas," The voice was serious, but had no emotion to it. Roxas knew who it belonged to. Roxas looked ahead to see Saix standing a few feet away from him.
"Uh oh." Roxas thought. He had forgotten about Saix and the mission he had given.
Saix walked up to Roxas and gave a cold emotionless stare at Maria, who was now hiding behind Roxas. "Roxas, who is this girl and why did you bring her here?"
"She seemed lost and I wanted to help her," Roxas said.
"Why is does she look like a Heartless?" Saix asked as he looked at Maria again. His eyes were cold, but also full of suspicion.
"I don't know…" Maria said, finally speaking up.
"Well until then we need to make sure we can trust you, come with me," Saix said as he grabbed Maria's and pulled her away from Roxas.
Roxas followed behind Saix wondering where Saix was taking Maria. After a minute they had entered the Soundless Prison area. Saix brought Maria to a cell and pushed her inside. Right after he locked the cell and the magic barrier activated. "You will stay in here until we know more about you." Saix then looked at Roxas. "Roxas, shall return back and fill out a report about your findings and bring it to me as soon as you can." And without another word Saix left.
Maria sighed and sat down on the floor, wrapping her arms around her legs. Roxas walked up the the cell and tried to think of what to say to her. "Maria I'm sorry, I didn't know that Saix would be waiting for me to return."
Maria looked up at Roxas and gave a small smile. "It's okay, at least I have some place to stay tonight. It's far better than out there."
"Well I guess I need to fill out my report for today. If I wait for too long Saix will probably come back and get on my back about that, but I'll come back and visit you when I can."
"Ok Roxas, see you later."
After that Roxas went to fill out his report. He tried his best to explain the situation that he had just had, though he still had many questions about it. Once he was finished with it he then headed out to have ice cream with Xion and Axel. He bought his ice cream and then made his way to the clock tower where he found Xion and Axel already waiting for him.
"Hey Roxas," Xion said, "How was your mission today?"
"It was...rather strange," Roxas said as he sat down. "Saix had me go find the source of a strange power that was hiding somewhere in The World that Never Was."
"Strange? What do you mean?" Xion asked as she took a bite of her ice cream.
"I don't know really, Saix couldn't give me an answer for that. But while I was looking for the source… I came across a girl..." Roxas said before eating some of his own ice cream.
"A girl?" Axel asked, raising an eyebrow. "Why would there be a girl in The World that Never Was?"
"Well...she wasn't just a girl...I mean…" Roxas paused trying to figure out how to say it. "She was half….Heartless."
"Half Heartless?!" bouth Axel and Xion shouted at once.
"Yeah...I don't know how to explain," Roxas said, looking down at his ice cream. "But she really does look a little like a Heartless."
"So what happened to her?" Xion asked.
"I brought her back to the castle, since I didn't think she should have to stay out there. But then Saix came along and is having her stay in one of the cells," Roxas replied.
"What? Why would he do that?" Xion asked.
"I don't know...He didn't really say…" Roxas said with a shrug.
"Hmm seems like something he would do…" Axel muttered as he took a bite of ice cream. "But who knows...maybe she is the strange power that you were told to find."
"What?" Roxas said, looking over at Axel. "You really think so?"
Axel shrugged. "It's possible."
"Oh… Well I hope she isn't. She seemed like a nice person," Roxas said as he continued to eat his ice cream.
Later that night as Roxas laid in bed, he kept thinking about Maria. There was so many thoughts and questions he had. "Just who is she? How did she get to be half Heartless? Is she really the strange power Saix talked about?"
