A/N: Meh. I'm putting this up a… 2:35 am. But, I must! This story is co-authored by Alex Almighty. All hail the Alex Almighty! Yeah… Shellie. Alex and I own that name. Why? Because, we used in in the PMs leading up to this story. What is Shellie, you ask? Shep and Nellie, of course! Alex suggested the pair to me in a PM about my community. And the rest is history, messages, and plot bunnies. So.. Here go's nothing….

Disclaimer: I don't own 39 Clues, however, Alex and I do own the pair name Shellie, the plot, and the stuff that is not characters mentioned in the books numbers 1-11.

Nellie needed a vacation. Fiske could take care of the kids. Or, at least, that's what she told herself as she boarded the plane taking her on her- as Dan and Amy put it- "much needed" vacation to California. California! Why did it have to be the most Cahill infested state that she picked! It was gonna wreak like Cahill down there.

Nellie walked down the narrow aisle of the, and sat down in the seat allotted to her on ticket. "Excuse me Shelia," a vaguely American Australian male voice asked Nellie from the seat next to her ."But haven't I seen you somewhere before?". The voice was familiar, and distinct, yet, Nellie couldn't quite place who it was. "Well, I don't think-" Nellie gasped., for, sitting in the seat next to her, sat none other than Shepard Trent, her au-pairee's father's cousin. "Shep?" she asked, blinking rapidly a few times, just to make sure it was really the surfer.

"Ya, that's me." he laughed, his sun-bleached hair glinting in the afternoon sun that was streaming through the small air plane window. "Nellie, right?". Nellie nodded, happy one of Dan and Amy's relations remembered her name. By the time the plane had taken off, the two were chatting like old friends about a many of topics. Shep had told her that he was going to California for a surfing contest hosted by Maliea Kalane. Maliea Kalane. That name sounded familiar, but, Nellie pushed it to the back of her mind. She was there to have fun. Little did she know, her sunny fun days were about to become foggy, ominous days filled with dread. If she had known that, then she would have gotten off the plan at the word Shep
