Robins POV Lily and Marshall planned a whole day of fun, hiking, swimming, and canoeing for tomorrow. That was why everyone had left the bar early. Lily and Marshall had been wanting to do this for as long as I could remember, so they made sure everything was exactly right. They called the babysitter for Marvin, got new matching outfits, got everyone outfits, and even bought a canoe.
The next day, Cristin-Teds wife-Ted, Barney and I all met up at Lily and Marshalls. We didnt bother to get dress, except for Barney, his usual suit. Cristin, Ted and I all went to their house in our pajamas. Marshall and Lily were wearing matching clothes, Lily, a orange-ish yellow tank top for hiking so it was showing her stomach, Marshall's exactly the same except it was a full shirt amd didnt show his stomach. Lily had planned for me, a blue-ish purple-ish tank top like hers, and Cristin, the same but hers was pink and purple. Ted's was girly like Cristin's, so it was exactly the same color.
Cristin and Ted had been married for about a year now, they were so happy together, they did everything together, exactly like Marshall and Lily. Barney wasnt seeing anyone, he wasnt married, he didnt have kids. And neither was I. Barney and I were the odd ones out, always had been, and always would be for that matter.
The first thing we did that day was hike. And to my surprise, we were actually having fun. We were just, going everywhere, so freely. And than this little pig came out of the trees, it looked so adorable. Cristin, Lily and I went up to pet it, but before we could, a black hog came out of the trees right behind it, it ran after us. We pushed Ted behind, hoping he could make it go away, he fell right in the mud, but at least the hog went away. We walked the trail again, Lily and Marshallin the lead, Barney, Cristin, and Ted following right behind. Than Barney slowed down to catch up to me. "Listen, about yesterday, I am so-" I cut him off.
"It's nothing Barney, you were just playing a joke, its fine. It was even a little funny." "No, its not fine, it was rude, and I'm sorry. I wont do it again, I promise." He said. Barney had played a joke, he had payed this guy to come up to some girl he thought was pretty and pretend to like them, it was a new play Barney was working on, unevitably, that person was me. He walked up to me, kissed me, and than poured water over my head.
I guessed their was no reason to be mad at Barney, he didnt know it was going to be me. But I didnt feel like I was mad at him for that, maybe it was for wanting to do another play. I stopped, I couldnt have feelings for Barney, he was... Barney. But I couldnt stop staring into his blue eyes, as he went on with his apology. I was about to lean in and kiss him, when Lily told everyone it was time to canoe. I cleared my throat, and walked off. There were three canoes waiting.
"Lily, I thought you only bought one canoe." I said.
"I wanted the couples together." She said.
"What about me and Barney?" "Like I said, I wanted the couples together." She smiled.
Barney walked up, just as I was trying to figure out what she meant by that. "Looks like we're sitting together." I said. This was going to be hard, how could I sit in a canoe for about four hours with Barney? Something was going to happen, I just didnt know if it was good or bad.
We got in our canoe, just as everybody else started paddling off. "Lily seems to think there is something going on between us." He said, looking back at Lily and Marshall.
"Maybe there is." He looked back at me as I finished saying that, why did I say that?
"Maybe." He agreed, smiling.
"Look, theres Cristin and Ted, we can beat them, they're obviously reinacting The Notebook. They wont even noticed we passed them." I said.
"Are you wanting to race, Scherbatsky?" He asked. "Because we are so gonna win!" He exclaimed.
