More Than Just A Lie In
It's a sign of how much his life has changed . . . The rebellious part of him determined to relish this freedom while it lasts. It could all be over too soon.
He's 'accumulated' enough cash to last him a few days and laying low seems like a good idea – buck the trend. As he figures it, the majority of those who get out of Manticore are going to be on the loose and easy to spot. He doesn't need to fall into that category.
He's been on the outside often enough that he can fit in, his edges are raw, a little off at times, but it's not glaring, not like those who've never been out will be. Some of them won't even have had training for infiltration and undercover. He's got all that in his favor.
Trouble's going to find him soon enough, no way something as big and organized as Manticore can go down without a storm. They're going to go back in there to clean up the mess and work out just who made it out alive and then . . . then, they're going to hunt them all down like animals.
So he may as well get the rest while he can, figure out a plan, using all those skills that Manticore taught him to evade capture because soon enough he's going to be on the run and if he's gets his way, he'd going to be running a long time and when he isn't running he hopes he's dead, because he doesn't want to go back in again. He doesn't need another stint of brainwashing to know his body can't keep taking that duress.
For now though, he's going to relish this bed, a full-sized bed all to himself in a room of his own, not a cot in a dorm. For once in his life, he's going to sleep in until he wants to get up and he's going to enjoy every last minute of lying here.
Because there's no saying he'll ever get it again.
