Of all the ways his life could turn out, Sirius never suspected that he would be living in a large flat in London with Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. Fact of the matter was that he hadn't thought that far in his future due to his home situation and… dwindling options. After school, he became a Hitwizard. It was sort of like an Auror, except he went after wizards who tried to avoid fines. Muggles call them Bounty Hunters.

Sirius wasn't quite sure what Peter did for a living but didn't particularly care whether he was home or out. Remus was the only one without a job, so he took care of the flat.

Sirius had to admit that on the days where Peter was out, he enjoyed it just being him and Remus.

Sometimes… it felt like… dare he say… playing house. He was the breadwinner, coming home to the smell of dinner cooking.

When he entered the flat, his dog senses picked up the sweet smell of frosting on top of pan-fried steak. The frosting wasn't actually on the steak, that's just how the smells were layered… why was he explaining that to himself?

Sirius entered the kitchen and saw a cake on the table.

"Who's that for?" he asked.

Remus scoffed incredulously.

"Take a wild guess."

"Your birthday is in March. It's November."

"Are you serious?"

"Always."

Remus slapped his forehead. "Mate, it's your birthday!"

Oh… how had he forgotten?

"Anyway, it's just you and me," said Remus. "Poor Harry has colic, so James and Lily are trying to figure out how to get him to stop crying. Peter is… well, I don't know where he is."

"That's just fine then," said Sirius with a grin. "What did you get me?"

"Do you only think of yourself?"

"Not only."

Remus smiled and held up a soft, horribly-wrapped present. Sirius took it, eagerly tearing the red paper away.

Inside was a black AC/DC t-shirt printed with the British Flag. He lit up. AC/DC was one of his favorite bands.

"This is pure quality, mate!"

"Unfold the shirt."

As soon as he did, two tickets fell to the ground. Sirius picked them up, jaw dropping with a slow inhale lasting about a minute.

"The concert is on the tenth," said Remus. "Mind you, I had to get James to chip in a lot. Can't tell you how many times I'm going to have to babysit Harry to pay that off."

"This is brilliant!" said Sirius. "I— this is incredible! I could kiss you!"

He blanched and closed his mouth with a click.

Remus looked at him. Smiling coyly, he then said those three words that Sirius didn't even know he'd been longing to hear.

"What's stopping you?"

Sirius grinned and abandoned the t-shirt in favor of cupping Remus's cheeks and kissing him. A motion he'd been wanting to make for three years, but never had the guts to. It was better than any first kiss he'd had.
