Disclaimer: I don't own Narnia or any of these characters.
Summary: A short piece in which Mrs. Pevensie tries to look after her children and doesn't seem to notice that they no longer require a mother.
A/N: I write little Narnia drabbles almost constantly and have finally decided to post one. Pretty much my favorite thing is angsty children after losing Narnia. In this story, the emotion is more implied than explicitly stated.
Also, it doesn't matter too much, but I imagine this story taking place between LWW and Prince Caspian where Lucy is 9 and Edmund is 11.

Mrs. Pevensie looked out the back door, trying to locate her youngest daughter. Finally she spotted her, nearly at the very top of the tree in their small garden.
"Lucy!" she shouted in alarm.
Lucy, startled out of her reverie by her mother's harsh cry, turned, lost her balance and fell. Desperate fingers tried to close around a branch and at the last moment, she grabbed one, but falling at the angle she was, her arm twisted and; with a loud pop, she cried out and fell to the ground.
Lucy was already sitting up and assessing the damage when her mother came running over, kneeling beside her.
"Lucy! Oh, Lucy! Whatever were you doing up there? Are you hurt?"
The young woman who looked so like a little girl, gritted her teeth against the pain in her arm. "I think my shoulder's dislocated," she said, matter-of-factly. Tenderly feeling it with her other hand and hissing in pain as she probed it, she added, "I don't think it's broken."
Her mother was momentarily flustered. Confused by this assessment and the utter lack of tears.
"What's going on?"
Mrs. Pevensie turned to find her youngest son standing behind them, frowning. "Oh Edmund, Lucy fell out of the tree. Stay here with her, will you? I'll call for a doctor." She stood up, brushing off her skirt." Don't move, dear," she added to Lucy.
They watched her go and once she was in the house, Edmund turned to his sister, one eyebrow raised. "You fell out of the tree?"
"Oh shut up," Lucy scowled. "I was daydreaming and she screamed my name. I was startled…and the trees here won't catch you when you fall."
"Your arm?" Edmund asked.
Lucy nodded. "Dislocated from the feel of it," she said.
Edmund knelt beside her and felt it carefully, Lucy gasped and shut her eyes. She felt him get a grip on her back and her arm and gritted her teeth, clutching a handful of grass with her other hand.
"Ready?" Edmund asked.
"No, but just do it," she responded.
There was a loud crack and Lucy shrieked, but after a moment the sharp, stabbing pain subsided and there was just a dull ache in its place.
"Thanks," she said.
"Of course," Edmund said. He helped her stand up and she rubbed her shoulder gently.
The two siblings looked up as their mother came hurrying out of the house again. "Dr. Howard will be here as soon as he can. Come on, Lucy, let's get you inside."
"Really, I don't think a doctor is necessary…" Edmund began.
"I'm your mother and I think I will decide that," Mrs. Pevensie interrupted.
Edmund fell silent, glancing at Lucy who met his eyes briefly and then looked away.
She put her arm around her daughter and led her into the house. "Now you aren't to climb that tree ever again."
Lucy's eyes widened and she felt an absolute wave of overwhelming shock and indignation that someone should attempt to prohibit her from doing something she loved. But she said nothing and let her mother sit her down on the couch in the sitting room.
It was only then that she cried.
