A/N Hi! This is a fan tribute to Transcendence14's awesome LOTR and HTTYD crossover, The Book of Black Memories.
I own nothing.
It started the second day. Astrid was talking to Snow, and Snow said something strange. She said: "I am not who I once was, but at the same time, I am everything I once was."
So, of course, Astrid asked, "Who are you?"
Snow had given her a long, sad look, and said simply, "I am The Voice."
Their conversation ended there.
Since then, Astrid had asked Snow the same question, every day. And every day Snow answered differently.
"I am The Voice."
"I am The Song."
"I am The Heart That Was Broken."
"I am The Dark Before Dawn."
"I am The Path That Was Lost."
"I am The Over-used Sword."
"I am The Bane Of Frost."
"I am The Light In The Fog."
"I am The Life That's Beginning."
"I am The Pain That Was Found."
"I am The Tree That Was Felled."
"I am The End Of Sound."
"I am The Shadow Surrounded By Light."
"I am The Pain That Comes With Strife."
"I am The Grief That Comes With Loss."
"I am The Love That Has Ended."
"I am The Confusion That Clarity Has Lost."
"I am The Mother Without Her Child."
"I am The Princess Without Her Prince."
"I am The Lover Of One Who Refused."
"I am The Tears That Come With Rememberance."
And then, close to the end, Snow had said something that deeply disturbed Astrid and made her terrified for her friend:
"I am The Dead Soul Inside A Living Body."
But then, in one of their last battles, Snow had saved Hiccup's life. Toothless was too far away, and everyone else was fighting for their lives.
The flight suit had been hit with dragonfire, and he was falling.
Snow had caught him, but in the process her own wings had been hit by a bola, locking them together.
They fell. Snow was on the bottom.
Her injuries were too great. There was absolutely nothing they could do.
Snow asked them to tell her adoptive daughter what had happened, and then, in tears, Astrid asked the question one last time:
"Snow, who are you?"
Snow looked up at them, a small smile playing about her lips.
"I am...The Girl Who Is..Going..Home."

They never, ever forgot Snow, and honored her as much as one could be honored.
Astrid especially, wrote a small book detailing her conversations with Snow. The good, the bad, the happy, the sad, and ended it with:
"Snow was a great friend, and I will never forget her."
