Chapter 1

Finding the way

A/N: Nothing to say here except Hollow Knight Spoilers! They will get bigger in later chapters but they are still here!

It remembered little to nothing. Nothing but faint traces… growing thinner with each passing moment.

For now it all felt black.

Void.

For some reason… the pitch black was… comforting?

As if he was born just for this…

He felt odd as a light entered this black void.

What was this for..?

It did not matter much right?

It could not possibly mean anything important.

Void was nice.

Very nice feeling at least…

He whimpered as light filled the void.

Light hurt him…

Why?

Kings Pass…

The small creature of void opened it's… 'hollow' like eyes as it fell…

"...wh-wha..?" He barely had time to react as he cascaded at a fast rate towards the floor.

He realized he was about to die…

That was sad.

Since he remembered nothing in before that as well..

Instinct unknowing to him kicked in and his shadowy legs pushed themselves outwards allowing him to land in a kneeling position.

And somehow still in one piece.

He looked at his surroundings, they were quiet… unsettingly quiet.

He heard scuttling and stepped back before dismissing it and looking at himself.

He was apparently all pitch black… shadow… accept for his head hidden by his shell.

The rest of him was shadow with a nice cloak over it all.

Why did he not remember his own look?

He felt something weighing him.. Not in a bad way… just something he knew could not be a part of himself

He put a hand to it before realizing his hand was like a thick string.

Odd.

He ignored it and put his hand behind him reaching for anything that may be att-

His hand grasped the handle of… something.

He slowly and carefully pulled it out and looked at it.

It was just an old nail…

His mind spoke to him explaining like.

'...My old nail.. Perfect for defending me from the things down here.' It spoke and he jumped at his own thoughts.

He tried to reach in his mind deeper for more of them but found them obstructed by a wall… a mental defense of sorts.

"...Ok… Nail… cool i guess… wait… what things?" He asked himself before deciding to look around himself.

There were shells of some sort far off in the distance thickly covered by a fog of sorts.

He could see something glint and turned behind him.

The floor was cobblestone like along with the walls.

But the wall he now faced… seemed… off. He walked up to it tilting his curious head.

He held his nail in his hand and for the first time ever struck it against something.

Accept he passed through nothing…?

"...Wow… i'm so good i sliced it like butter!" He decided and then realized.

You can't cut rocks that easily…

He looked in front of himself and now noticed.

It had been an illusion of the environment that there was a wall… in reality nothing was there…

"...Wow…" He said to himself (Not that there's anybody else to talk to at the moment) he wandered past this point and looked around.

The cave was odd yet still like the one he had been in previously… but much smaller.

A glint caught his eye again and he turned to the source… a shiny rock with odd material poking out of it.

With suspicion he did the most reasonable thing.

Smack it with his nail.

To his surprised some of the material fell out.

He tried to pick it up but it went into his shadowy state.

"...!" He looked at himself in surprise but saw no difference.

"..What just…" He smacked it again and the geo was once again absorbed into his Shadowy state.

To even greater confusion the rock was smashed to pieces for good… by a nail…

A nail?

(Damn you hollow knight logic)

He sighed and put the nail back on his back (Puns) and to his surprise it slid right in.

Maybe his cloak had a slot in it just for the weapon?

Whatever the case he turned around and wandered through the cavern deeper.

He found himself encountering many doorways to his destination.

He smashed through each one with no trouble or hesitation.

Each swing just made him more easy going with the weapon.

After the third door he could pull it out and swing in a fraction of a second.

Quick learner or memory triggered?

Who knows?

So of course by instinct when he spotted the first other creature, a small bug like being he did not hesitate and accidently slashed at it with the nail.

"...Oh god!" He said in surprise putting the nail back and hurriedly running over to the creature.

The bug curled up and it's color faded emitting a odour meaning one thing.

Death.

He looked at his hands for a moment.

He felt little to no emotion from this.

Yet he felt terrible still.

Grimly he continued now feeling sad about what he had done.

Forgotten Crossroads: Temple

Quirrel looked up at the magnificent thing once more still fascinated by it's intricate and odd designs.

It worried him to think of what hid underneath.

But for now…

It did not matter much..

At least not to him.

?:?

The mighty warrior waited.

They had sensed it.

The failed vessel had touched ground.

Soon enough..

Things were going to finally escalate.

Took long enough..

He screeched in anger as his eyes opened fueled with orange rage.

Who were they?

Thinking they had the right to chain him up?

They were going to suffer for this!

HE was going to suffer for this!

No cost too great?

NO. COST. TOO. GREAT.

THAT LITTLE BASTARD OF A FATHER IS GOING TO DIE.

I HOPE HE'S ALREADY ROTTING!

Back in Kings Pass…

The little creature of void had gotten used to getting rid of these bugs now… He had realized they were hostile… a voice was telling him to not care.

It still felt like a terrible thing to do.

He walked by an odd pedestal before seeing it light up.

"...Wh-?" He said in a childish curious voice.

He walked back to it creating small tap noises each time he walked.

He put one of his hands on the pedestal and looked at it all.

It was unreadable.

Yet…

He could understand what it was trying to say.

"Higher Beings? These words are for you alone...

Your great strength marks you amongst us. Focus your soul and you shall achieve feats of which others can only dream."

"Focus my soul?" He wondered what that was supposed to mean…

He decided to ignore it and continued his wandering.

He sighed and wielded his nail novicely as he looked around the area for any more of the minor creatures.

So he was not exactly expecting one of those flying ones to attack him in the back.

He felt a blast of pain and turned around instantly swinging his little old nail.

The creature burst into nothingness.

But the pain was still prominent.

It slowly felt like each of his veins and organs were bursting.

Everything slowed to a stop for a moment.

When everything resumed he kept himself from fainting.

"...Fo-fo-...focus… my s-soul…" He mumbled as he tried doing just that.

He fell onto one knee as he focused every bit of his body… of his soul.

To one goal.

To stop the pain.

He saw little beams of white begin to surround him and he began to feel the pain disappear.

When the beams disappeared he was revitalized… but incredibly tired.

He looked up.

There was still a long way to go.

Timeskip scree

"...FInally!" He yelled triumphantly as he rolled over to another glowing tablet and one very very big door.

Not even caring about the tablets words… yet he still read it.

"...the eternal kingdom… Hallownest? Cool!" He decided like a smart boio

He broke down the door and began.

He had found his way.

And the real adventure was to begin soon.

A/N: Hollow Knight! Recently got it and it looks amazing god why did i not have this before.
