Before she went home I needed to see her. To explain how I felt about her. If I didn't do it now, I feel like she might slip away from me for good. I saw her slight frame by her locker, taking the sticky notes Fletch had put on the door off to avoid them winding her up in the morning. "Fletch." She muttered under her breath.
I made my presence aware to her, "You should lock it. That's why they call it a locker." She gave me a sarcastic look so I carried on. "What a day," I sighed, "Do you fancy a drink?"
She put her coat on over her fragile body to keep her warm from the bitterly cold Easter and replied, "No sorry, I'm beat."
"I didn't like seeing you in trouble like that." Now is as good time as any to be honest with after the day's events.
"Yeh, well, don't worry about it. I'll live." She shut her locker and looked at me. I gave her a small smile back.
"I didn't like it when I saw you with your Mr Nobody."
"Well that's called male pride. You'll get over it." She wasn't going to back down this easily, and neither was I.
"Well, you see that's what I thought at first, but that's not it because… You see… I didn't like seeing you with him because I want to be the one that takes you to the opera. I want to be the one that looks out for you. That keeps you safe."
"Why?" Really? Does she not get it?
"Because… I don't want no strings not any more I actually want lots of strings. All of them attached to you."
"Why now? 'Cause somebody else wants me?" She looked at me with begging eyes.
"No, Sam. I would not do that." She gave me a smile. It was a smile of disbelief and remorse more than happiness. Oh god, I've ruined it haven't I? She walked out of the staff room and into the main reception of the ED. I knew I had to follow her, no matter what she thought of me or said to me. I needed to change her mind.
I grabbed her arm, turned her around and kissed her. It felt like the first kiss we shared all over again. All of the emotion whirring through my veins made it feel right. She pulled away, "Tom, this isn't going to…" I stopped her by kissing her again, this time the kiss was more passionate than the first.
I heard Louise, Noel, Big Mac and Tess clapping in the background as we pulled away. Sam buried her head into my chest as I laughed their way. I took Sam's hand and we made our way of the ED together. Once we had made it to her house in her car we both sat there kissing for what seemed like an eternity. Sam pulled away, "Erm, do you want to come in. It saves us getting cold."
"Well, don't mind if I do beautiful. I am quite cold out here." We both got out of the car and into Sam's house.
She shut the door behind her and I stood over her. She wrapped her arms around my neck; I grabbed her waist and backed her up against the door. This was the beginning of a new life for the both of us. Together.
